Snow chains

I know the owner's manual says no snow chains but has anyone attempted this? There is very little fender well clearance but some cable chains are pretty skinny.
I have a one time need for them and don't want to pay for 4 studded tires.

The problem is the inside clearance on the front wheels - there is very little space between the tire and the shock mount. Stick your finger inside the top of the front tires and you'll see how little.
And forget the studs. They give much worse traction than non-studded tires on non-iced-covered roads. Modern snow tires are very close to studs re. performance on ice.

We've not yet had our Bolt for a full week so have NOT tried them but the dealer mentioned that low clearance chains would be ok. They weren't trying to sell me anything, it was just a comment made after the deal was struck. It doesn't make it correct but I can eliminate the customary reasons for intentional deceit.
