I live in Borrego Springs in the Southern California desert between Palm Springs and El Centro. I have a 2018 Bolt which I have driven about 8 months. I also have a Volt, so I am well invested in the electric car mode.
Welcome, Claire. As you well know, BEVs are more suited to warm weather than cold. As mentioned, there are still unknowns as to how extreme heat such as you experience, affects battery life. In any case, at least in Borrego Springs, the range doesn't drop by half for half the year as it does up here in the frozen ass-end of nowhere.
Echoing the "welcome aboard" from my colleagues! I own a 2017 Bolt EV (25 months, 25,000 miles) and have made more than 12 trips of > 400 miles. I am the Secretary of the West Virginia Electric Auto Association and lecture on EVs in the Tri-State area. My particular interest is in charging infrastructure. Tell us of your experiences and ask any question the answer to which is not found in the O.M.
