Replacing the air filter with a carbon activated

I want to replace my air filter with an upgraded unit that has carbon activated in it because of the wildfire smoke in the air, and I don't want to breath ICE effluence. I got access to the air filter, the manual instructions aren't entirely clear, do the following
  1. Open glove box
  2. Push sides of box inwards so that tabs clear and drop the box
  3. Push end of slow motion piston towards the box to release that end and drop box more
  4. The filter is behind a plastic door at the top of the area behind there (you have to get down to see it) - it's above the round air motor case

The OEM filter is a minimal dust filter that measures 8"x9.5" (I forgot to check the thickness which I will do), but it appears to be the same as used in many Chevy vehicles.

The

air filter appears to be one that will work, with carbon and Arm & Hammer. I'll get one and test.

Cool! I too would like a better filter option when the time comes to replace my air filter. Thank you for the writeup and link! Can't wait to see the review!

From the owner's manual, the process looks a lot easier then in the 2017 Volt. You needed a long hex socket as well as remove the right trim panel (required passenger door to be open) to remove the glove box and access the passenger compartment air filter.

2017 Summit White Bolt LT, VIN #83351, built 8/2017 (real range anxiety now).
2017 Kinetic Blue Volt LT, VIN #11925, built 6/2016. (loved it, only fake range anxiety, but traded due to annoying misfires)

ProfessroBolta thanks for investigating options for the cabin air filter. I'm definitely interested in the Bolt's air filtration system and look forward to your findings.

Thanks for finding this, Prof! Iím also interested is seeing how well this works. I just checked the filter, and it looks pretty dark. Iím sure a lot of it was caused by the recent smoke.

On a related note, my glovebox no longer springs back, when I pull it down too fast. A tiny hole in the back of the piston cured it. 😁

Mine's still white, smoke was so bad I ran it recirculating the whole time

The FRAM CF10775 air filter appears to be one that will work, with carbon and Arm & Hammer.
I'll get one and test.
Did you ever get the new filter?
Did it fit?

Aggggg, due to the fire I had to have it shipped to my brothers house, but then the MP's let us back in so I canceled it and planned to reorder with delivery to the house. But in the meantime Amazon jacked the price up to $30, and I went whaaaaaaa? Meanwhile there's other ones just like that (same brand) that appear to be the same, but cheaper? On my list to figure out. I'll look into it today and place an order.

My few min of research leads me to believe the FRAM CF11966 is the correct fit.

According to gmpartsdirect.com the OEM Filter is "GM 13508023", if you go to FRAM.com that GM # returns FRAM CF11966 as the (Arm&Hammer w/Carbon) replacement.

Good catch! And only $22, ordered. I'll have it on Saturday and will report back. Thanks -
