  1. Electrify America to bring "Plug and Charge" functionality to its stations in 2019

    Charging Stations Discussion
EA actually has already implemented Plug-n-Charge for Bolt owners. But the “n” stands for “not”, as in “I plugged in my Bolt, but it will not charge.”
  2. Theoretical 800 mile road trip in various cars...

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
No, the there are some losses in charging, so you need to tow two Bolts for this to work. :) (C'mon folks, this is perpetual-motion science 101!!) The easiest solution though is to just arrange your route so you go downhill in both directions.
  3. Calif DCFC info - and/or news

    West
I believe there is a hope amongst green-energy scientists that power can be generated by the collective annoyance of EV drivers. By constructing stations and then not actually turning them on, perhaps the pent-up frustration of at least a few hundred Bolt drivers might power some kind of...
  4. In the middle of the road

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
How exactly would this happen? You would have to have repeatedly ignored the car's warnings that the battery was running dangerously low. How about these other no warning scenarios that drivers of fossil fuel vehicles might worry about. You're driving along and without warning… all the oil...
  5. Calif DCFC info - and/or news

    West
Apparently EA's location on I-5 at Firebaugh is now live. (Although it's not showing as live yet on Plug Share.)
  6. What do you call icing by an EV?

A Prius Prime still has an internal combustion engine.
  7. Brake Service

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
As I recall, the Bolt's rotors are actually designed so that they won't rust.
  8. New Paint Job

    Exterior
I like that you like the Kinetic Blue ones. :) Another option besides painting is wrap. You could also add some cool decals to make a white one more fun. Stripes, or racing numbers are a classic.
  9. Work Trip

    Charging and Batteries
Sacramento? It'll be totally drained and rendered unusable due to the confluence of geomagnetic forces, orbital flux, ley lines, and air pollutants. GM recommends that Bolt owners only park in Sacramento for a maximum of 45 minutes, and even then the car should be placed in a protective bubble.
  10. LOW to complete discharge

    Charging and Batteries
As you dip below 15% SoC, the display goes orange and the car suggests you should charge it soon. This is the worse I've seen myself in our Bolt, since the lowest we've ever discharged the battery is 13.33%. Various anecdotal data indicates that the Bolt typically shows “Low” at about 20 miles...
  11. LOW to complete discharge

    Charging and Batteries
I think it might show miles when the car is off, but if you try to drive it, it'll show low again. Any reason why you're regularly running your Bolt down to (nearly) empty?
  12. Battery degradation......a chemist who’s confused.

    Charging and Batteries
My empirical data puts regen in about that 30% ballpark (in other words, if you used 10 kWh on a trip, really you pulled 13 kWh out of the battery but also put 3 kWh back in).
  13. I have had issues with DCFC, but not like this

    Charging Stations Discussion
We might get to 300 miles, maybe, but few cars will go much beyond that. The battery will still be an expensive part and there's little reason to make it twice as big as it really needs to be. They'll either use battery advances to make the car cheaper, or use them to make the car more...
  14. 96 miles on full charge

    Charging and Batteries
I've had similar thoughts, but if you think it through, the 96 cell-groups are wired in series. It may only be 4 volts, but the car draws up to 425 amps, thus you need a serous bypass switch. It must also be totally save, with zero risk of shorting the battery and very low risk of failing and...

  16. I have had issues with DCFC, but not like this

    Charging Stations Discussion
Some day, if/when non-Tesla EV adoption takes off in the USA, this is our future, except worse. No one is going to be bringing mobile charging trailers to CCS sites. Tesla cares about Tesla-driver experience, and about doing cool stuff just 'cos. EA and EVgo don't have the same level of...
  17. Explaining a slow DCFC charge

    Charging and Batteries
Yes, there are PIDs for the heaters, and for various temperature sensors. (I'm somewhat disappointed that the temperature sensors are fairly coarse, only measuring in whole Celsius increments.)
  18. Blizzard Conditions in Manual

    Charging and Batteries
From what I can tell, they just deleted the paragraph. The original text talked about saving energy, not gas. The only mention of gas I can find in the 2017 manual is about the gas air-bag inflation, not gasoline.
  19. Just made the leap

    New Member Introductions
I figured I'd give a counterpoint to the “Don't get a Level-2 EVSE” folks. I've done the math, and in two years of ownership I've shown that I don't actually need Level-2 charging at home. I could have gotten by with Level-1 charging as I average only about 25 miles driven a day. An hour's...

You mean the mandatory emissions override system. And don't forget the AdBlack™ song from the non-CARB state commercials, “Two scoops of coal dust in a bottle of GM AdBlack goo”.
