  1. Chevy and Ford have nothing to fear from the Cybertruck!

    The EV Lounge
just like all those highly collectible Azteks? I think one of those in pristine condition will fetch you like two bits and a ball of ear wax :) that said I’m firmly in the “ugly but if it works at that price point I’m in” camp.

  3. How much does a permit cost to install a NEMA 14-50 in your state/county?

    DIY And How To
I’m in YORK Co. We get 7 cents/minute between 10PM and 6AM with the separate meter through YORK Electric Co-op.

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV Issues And Problems
I had the same thing first cold morning of the season. Hasn’t returned since.
  5. How much does a permit cost to install a NEMA 14-50 in your state/county?

    DIY And How To
About $40 here in sunny SC (that’s South Carolina not SoCal) and homeowners can pull permits just like contractors. I pulled permits and did the inspections for my self install, which included an additional meter for preferred EV rates.
  6. Bike rack advice, roof vs. hitch vs. trunk

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
Draw Tite and 1upUSA hitch rack. The latter never goes on sale, and you’ll cry when you write the check, but it has lasted through 4 cars and tens of thousands of miles in all sorts of weather and still looks/works great. No rust and made in USA.
  7. Does OpenEVSE require someone to physically push the start-charging button?

    Charging and Batteries
The botton puts the charger in “sleep” mode so it won’t charge if you plug in a car, otherwise it will start as soon as you plug in. Conversely, if you’re in sleep it won’t start charging when you plug in unless you hit the button. If you want to get fancy, the WiFi module allows you to...
  8. OpenEVSE Charger

    Charging and Batteries
I have an OpenEVSE. It was fun to assemble (it’s mostly screwing and connecting things vs “building”) and goes to 40Amso somewhat future proof. With the WiFi board you can monitor and remote start it. It has an internal timer that I set to coincide with our discounted electric rates or you can...
  9. Today I reverse engineered the myChevrolet app for the good of all

What Did You Do To Your Chevy Bolt EV Today?
I’d love to see someone cook up a Garmin connect app so I could start my bolt from my watch! This seems like the first step.

Here’s the rack. The “Bumpers” that hold he tire are adjustable. I have a touring bike with fenders and lights and just move them down so they grip the tire under the fender. Held my steel touring rig for a 1.5k road trip from SC to NH (Not in the bolt).

It’s not obvious to you? Icon #1: The Yellow Triangle will make the 3 snakes synchronize their dancing. In the book it has been written, therefore it is so. Icon #2: Money, paperclips, and the blue key will get you far in life, but they will not get you far enough. Icon #3: A Hershey bar is...
  13. Laying up a Bolt for 6-8 weeks

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
As another data point I just got back from about 6 weeks. Left the Bolt set to charge to 50% with about 55% on the battery and plugged in. Came back with the same 55% and from my charger logs looks like the Bolt didn’t draw any power. Only interesting thing I noticed is that the telematics seem...
  14. Interested in pros & cons from longtime owners

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
Not super long-term as I’m just hitting 6 months and came from an i3. Some items I’ve not seen mentioned: great rear seat room. I can fit our family of 5 in a pinch, and with one person missing 4 people is very comfortable. I find the seats fine, although I’ve got a 2019. CarPlay is WAY...
  15. Draw Tite Install Quick Review

    Towing
After agonizing a bit over which hitch to install to support a bike rack (1upUSA) I finally landed on the Draw Tite. The Curt had too low a tongue weight and seemed like it lacked a stable installation configuration, and the Ecohitch was just too rich for my blood at just shy of $300, despite...
  16. Electrify America installs of DCFCs ...

    The EV Lounge
There seems to be an impression (I’ve heard it from BMW and Tesla sales folks) that buying an EV gives you “preferred parking.” I was actually a bit surprised when I leased my i3 that one of the sales guys said something like “Buying it for the up-front parking, amiright!!!” I’d guess with a...
  17. Unlimited internet without OnStar?

    Electronics, Audio, and Lighting
Chevy doesn’t do itself a ton of favors with all the options and confusing names. I don’t know if the EV “magic words” apply to the 2019 MY but all the remote goodies I wanted are now working for about $22/month. I’d rather have that in my pocket all told and wasn’t expecting the free service...
  18. Unlimited internet without OnStar?

    Electronics, Audio, and Lighting
So after hitting my one free month and a “bonus” month I can confirm that remote access via onstar ends, even if you have a connected vehicle plan. I ponied up for a year of remote key or whatever they call it, since my i3 spoiled me on being able to check battery/charging status from across...
  19. Features difference list

    Opel Ampera-e General Discussion
Power folding mirrors are pretty standard in Europe since there are many roads that are so narrow you’ll clip mirrors with cars when others are parked on both sides of the road. Believe me when I say that it’s pretty nerve wracking for an American driving a manual car on the “wrong” side of the...
  20. Unlimited internet without OnStar?

    Electronics, Audio, and Lighting
There’s an option on the AT&T site (google “att connected car” that seems to support the Bolt and is $20/month for unlimited. I’m not sure why Chevy seems to charge $25 for the same thing. I’d pony up for the $20 if it let me use the app and everything else, but not the $45.
