  1. fun to drive. how fun to drive?

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
I was driving around this evening running errands, after having read a bit of this thread. I realized as I was rolling along my suburban streets that with the Bolt, I feel like I just have to think of where I want to be, and the car puts itself there. I use L exclusively, for one-pedal driving...
  2. My first road trip

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
Well, and then I got to thinking: for that leg when I ended up with 14%, I guess I sort of did that on purpose. I took off from the previous charger with just what I needed to get to the next one, plus a few miles extra (not with a full charge). So I guess I was actually somewhat going by that...
  3. After A Full Charge

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
A lot of folks suggest setting the maximum charge at about 90% or so. It’s winter here in the mid-Atlantic, so I’m leaving my car plugged in (to a level 2 EVSE) whenever I park it in the driveway, all the time. It would be the same for level 1.

Trip recap: I just got home after my long(er) round trip. Total miles traveled over the long weekend were 696. Overall efficiency on the trip was about 3.5 miles/kWh. I had to fast charge twice on the way down and twice on the way back. (If there were a charger exactly halfway along my route, I...

Indeed it will. However, like a responsible guest, I took a look inside my mother’s circuit breaker box and saw not a single breaker rated for greater than 10 amps. I thought a slow trickle charge was probably better than overheating the outlet in the garage. 😉 Edit: Sorry, don’t mean to be...
  6. My first road trip

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
This is a trip that used to take me about seven and a half hours with leisurely stops on the way, including a meal break. With the Bolt it took me eight and a half. I had to stop twice, because the first appropriate stop was too close to my start, and then there was a very long stretch until my...
  7. My first road trip

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
I drove my Bolt today from Fairfax County, VA, to Thomasville, NC, a journey of 331 miles. I had to stop twice for charging, since charging stations in the mid-Atlantic region are still few and far between. Spacing was weird. If the first station had been a bit farther down the line, I probably...
  8. OnStar trial scam?

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
You were smart, finallygoingev, not to give them a credit card when you bought the car. I made the mistake of doing that, which is why I had to call and proactively cancel. I understand there’s supposed to be some free connectivity for a few years. I hope I didn’t cut myself off from that by...
  9. OnStar trial scam?

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
Update: Since the end of my Onstar trial period is this Saturday, and since I'll be on the road (my first road trip in the Bolt!) the rest of this week, I just called Onstar to cancel the service. Boy howdy, I have not experienced a harder sales pitch than the one I just endured! The guy on the...

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV Issues And Problems
I’ll revive this thread after six months to report that my 2019 LT (two months in my possession) just did the blank screen thing. I was adding air to one of the tires with the car “on,” the driver side door open, and me standing outside with the key. So I was getting the warning beep telling me...

  12. Broken USB port

2017+ Chevy Bolt EV Issues And Problems
I had this happen tonight in my 5-week-old Bolt. USB had been working fine to connect my iPhone 8 via CarPlay. I drove to a rehearsal in the early evening, no problem. When I got in my car to come home, the car wouldn’t see the phone, not even to charge, using the same cable and port. The other...
  13. A Chevy Bolt can haul a double bass!

    Chevy Bolt EV Pictures
You know what? I actually did find this article online. What it was missing for me was more pictures of his bass in the car. I could see that he got the bass itself into the back, but not how far it extended into the front (e.g., headstock sitting on the dashboard or something?) or how much...
  14. A Chevy Bolt can haul a double bass!

One caveat: if you have a Bolt Premier, no worries at all; it will work fine. My Bolt is an LT, which does not come standard with the fake cargo floor in the back. I had to order that extra and have it installed. (I probably could have saved money and installed it myself, actually.) I found it...

What magazine was that in? I missed it, obviously.

Or a string bass, upright bass, contrabass, bass fiddle, bull fiddle, whatever you want to call it. I’m posting this (including all those name variants in the first sentence) because I really needed this info two months ago, when I was zeroing in on the Bolt as my EV of choice. Long searching...
  17. Share Pictures Of Your Battery Charger Set Up

    Chevy Bolt EV Pictures
Here’s my new Clipper Creek HCS-50 setup on the side of my house. I had to call an electrician to run a 50-amp wire through a heating duct race in my finished basement, but it was a straight shot. (My service panel is on the opposite side of my house from my driveway.) It works great, and the...
  18. Level 2 installed at home—I’m rolling!

    Charging and Batteries
OMG! That pre-conditioning thing! When I got in the car, it was toasty, the heat was running full blast, seat warmer and steering wheel warmer were cooking! As soon as I started up, it turned off, cause I didn’t need it anymore! Did not cost any battery range at all! Wow!

I have no carport. The car is always parked outside.
  20. Level 2 installed at home—I’m rolling!

    Charging and Batteries
Today is my 5-week anniversary of my new LT. I’ve been charging (about 4 or 5 times) from 110 VAC with the supplied level 1 charge cord. But yesterday the electricians came and installed my Clipper Creek HCS50 on my outside wall next to my driveway. So I’m feeling like all the EV pieces have...
