  1. 2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
Hi All, we were excited to get our first EV but unfortunately in our first day discovered that a full charge displayed a range of 139mi. This seems well below expected even with the battery recall applied with 10% reduced charge. Is this expected? Considering returning car to investigate as...
  2. 2017+ Chevy Bolt EV General Discussion Forum
I'm new to the forum & really appreciate all the well-informed posts, especially about calculating range and battery issues. I'm off-grid with a new solar system, so it's (finally!) time for an EV! I'm comparing the 2020 LTD with a $19k one-owner 2017 premier with 31,000 miles (pics of range...
  3. 2017+ Chevy Bolt EV Recalls
I've been in conversation with GM regarding the recent battery recall and they have offered to replace or repurchase my leased 2019 Chevy Bolt with 12,xxx miles. I haven't received details yet of what exactly they are planning to offer, but I'm wondering if anyone else is also considering this...
  4. Charging and Batteries
I purchased my 2017 Bolt in August of 2019. It now has 50K miles and I drive about 6K miles per year. I do not know the maintenance history, if any. Now I am trying to figure out if I have a "first design battery" or a "second design battery". According to my VIN # it appears I have a first...

Link to Coursera course I am taking this Coursera course and Week 2 covers everything about Lithium Ion batteries how they are built, assembled, and designed. It's pretty great stuff and the professor provides information on what Tesla uses. It got my curious on what the Bolt uses. For...

Is there anyway I can tell how much juice (how many kilowatts) I still have in my 2017 Bolt at anytime?
  7. 2017+ Chevy Bolt EV Issues And Problems
I have a 2018 Ampera with a sudden drop in kWh. Charged the car with hill top reserve (around 80%) and then drove 5 days, spending 18,8kWh according to the infotainment screen, while "fuel gauge" was at 25%. 55% of the battery was spent on 19kWh and that should have been around 30kWh. I do have...

Hey all, I just purchased a gently used 2017 bolt ev with 31k miles. At the time of writing this it has yet to be delivered from Carvan so I've been searching through the forums to see what may be useful to know before it is delivered.I do have a few questions/concerns about my new bolt though...
  9. Charging and Batteries
Has anyone else noticed, the sticker on the battery for a 2020 Bolt reads 64kWH? Does anyone happen to know why? Shouldn‘t the battery pack label read 66kWH? If memory serves the the previous model years battery label read 57 instead of 60. Kinda strange.
  10. Charging and Batteries
Have anyone ever noticed how long the Bolt sits at 100% before completing the charge? I waited over 10 minutes just to unplug it before the Bolt finished finalizing. I know it wasn’t completely finished as it was still drawing 5 kilowatts. should I have let it sit longer? I have a feeling it...
  11. Charging and Batteries
I have a 2019 Bolt and I absolutely love it. A couple months ago I noticed that it wasn't charging up all the way overnight. I soon realized that it was seeming to "fall asleep" a few hours after being plugged in. The light in the dash wasn't lit up at all and no electricity was coming out of...

i have had the 2019 Bolt EV for less than a month. i live a little north of vancouver BC, temperatures have been in the -3 to 8 Celsius range since purchasing. i've been plugging the car in with the supplied 120V charger when the tempreature has been dipping below 0C. I've charged the car to...
  14. How To Lower Energy And Operating Costs On EVs
I use my Bolt EV to do food deliveries. It's getting to be winter and I am trying to be as efficient as possible. Anyone have any insight on whether it's better to leave the car powered on when I am making a delivery vs. turning it off when I pull in a driveway to make a delivery and then...

I’ve purchased a 2018 Chevy bolt couple months. Ago and it didn’t click to me, but I live in apartment and I have no output to plug in my car. Winter is coming and I’m now aware that it’ll reduce up to 40 percent of the range during the winter Season. It gets from 25 to 40 where I live during...

At what outside temperature will the battery start warming up its main battery? Knowing if the trigger temp is, as an example, 3 Celsius, so instead of preconditioning the battery using its own battery power to keep warm, i would plug the car if i know temperature will drop to or below that...
