12 volt battery replacement options?

I've had to jump my 2017 a few times this week as the battery has a bad cell, so I need a replacement. I usually find something at a junkyard or Facebook that is a year or two old for $30-$50, or if not, I splurge on a new $70 Walmart battery. I understand the battery size is an LN1 or a 140R. Any other options? 26R looks pretty close, or an H4.

Honestly, I thought there was nothing special about the 12-volt battery. I would just take my car to Goodyear or Walmart and have it replaced with one that specs out in their replacement charts. When I looked into it recently, I was relieved to see that multiple places would simply replace it. If you make it into a special EV thing, they might try to gouge you.

This is what specs out at Walmart. Personally, I'd go with the AGM. It's a lousy 8 bucks extra per year over a 5 year service life.

It says H6 though, so will it actually fit.?

So maybe just go with the OE battery that Walmart sells online for a few bucks more.

Why can't we have the 12v system as robust and maintenance free as the big pack ? it seems a LiFe 12v with proper BMS should handle it. Am I missing something ?
Cost, pure and simple. The lead acid AGM is much less expensive. That doesn’t explain why Kia uses a Li-Ion 12v battery in their hybrid Niro but lead acid in the PHEV/EV models.

I have the AAA Premier membership with battery coverage that gives one free battery a year. I was hesitant to use it up on such a small battery since I have over 6 months left until my membership renews, but oh well. Guy in a AAA battery truck comes out, looks under the hood and says he doesn't have that exact battery but this 47 AGM should fit. So he gets the old battery out and puts in the 47. Sure enough it won't lay flat and the bracket won't secure it. He says it will be ok and how would I like to pay for it. I tell him I have the AAA free battery coverage. He calls somebody and gets confirmation of that, but because it's not the correct battery for the car, I would have to pay him now and get reimbursed from AAA. I said no thanks, I'll go to a AAA service center for a battery. Just put the old battery back in.

Next day I go to a AAA service center and explain the situation. The guy there says they would have to special order a battery for something like $300 and I would still have to get reimbursement from AAA because the battery isn't from AAA, and their maximum reimbursement is only $200. He says I can buy a battery myself and apply for reimbursement with the battery test printout he gave me. I said ok, then went home and ordered the original LN1AGM from Rock Auto $153 OTD including shipping and core charge. Will have to wait and see what kind of hassle it will be getting reimbursed.

Hi: bumping a ~4 month old thread. I may need to replace the 12v battery in my 2020 premier. I am a costco member and checked with them sadly, no luck on an H4 size?? I called my local center, they said no shop carries the H4, so I'd have to check online and order there. Going online, I cannot figure out how to browse their batteries, they only let me plug in car model. When I do, it returns "we're sorry, this battery is unavailable". Anyone have a link or ideas? Thanks.
I also checked interstate's website, their price is same price as the dealer's ac delco, so hrrm.

Measure the space (3D) in the battery tray, and note the post positions and numbers on the old one. Go to your local auto parts store, first tell them the "official" replacement type. If they don't have one, have them go find a high quality one on the shelf that fits the dimensions and at least meets the specs you provide.

It might take them a while to find one, but you may end up with a better battery than what you're replacing. I'd recommend going when they're not busy.

I did this with an '87 Jeep Wrangler, and replaced a wimpy OEM factory 12V PbA with a far superior one, after I removed the spacers to make the small one fit better.

14.4 for 10 sec then 12.8 for duration of trip
Are you sure? i've seen 14.4 for longer than that at startup.
Maybe run the windows up and down after shutting the car off until the 45 second timeout, then start the car and monitor. It might charge at 14.4 for five minutes.
Later, it might be toggling between 12.9 and 13.1, turn on the defrost and wipers, and see if it bumps up to 14.4.
