I have a 2017 premier with 96000 miles. Yesterday I noticed a burning smell coming from the front. The 12volt battery was clearly burning to hot and you could hear and smell the acid. I took it to autozone to test it but they wouldn't touch it. I took it to a auto shop where they said they wont touch it. Called up local dealer and they cant touch it till the 20th. I'm an amazon driver who needs his car.

Has anyone experienced this? Autozone suggested its a bad alternator. Could be a voltage regulator? I know I'll need a new battery but need to know the cause so I can fix it. TIA

You can test the voltage with any multimeter (even the cheapest one). Someone will provide more accurate numbers, but I think that if it is between 13 and 15 volts you are OK.

Let's hope it's just the battery with an internal short of some sort. The DC-DC converter in the Bolt that charges the 12V would be an expensive problem.

Welcome to the forum. Hope you get it sorted out.
Forget the expense of the converter. Finding a replacement for that alternator is gonna be an absolute nightmare!

Sounds like an internal short. Don't even think about trying to fix the battery, just toss it and get a new one. It's an easy install, save yourself some money and do it yourself. Taking it to the dealer just gives them an excuse to inflate the problem.
