My local dealer has a tradeup event for 2017 Bolters this Sat only - a 7-hour event. The flyer came in the mail today -- it's a GM promotion of some sort. It claims "you will drive off in a new Bolt for less than your current Bolt". I can't make much sense of their #s , but of course if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Anyone else get this promotion? Anyone figure out what they're actually offering?

I'd take that ad with a ginourmous boulder of salt.

This worked for me without any GM subsidy: I traded in my purchased 2017 Premiere and drove away with a 2019 and netted $600 in the deal.
If your state has an EV subsidy of ~$2K or more, and you can take the full $7500 tax break, you can break even on a new Bolt, because the subsidies are worth more than the depreciation.
I'm guessing that because GM leases keep the subsidies for GM rather than letting you have them, the arithmetic works out about the same, and GM sells you a new car.
Check it out - I was surprised and pleased.

Interesting. Here in MA the state rebate is $2500. Assuming the Fed credit goes thru Q1 this year, then it might be worth a closer look.

I did this with my 2016 Leaf SV. I traded it in for a 2017 Leaf SV with better options and made money on the deal (including sales tax). Of course, I had to wait another year for the $7,500 tax break to come back to me.

I tracked the trade in using the Leaf app, after the sale. It sold at the Manheim auction, and was then trucked to NJ to some overseas car shipper.....

I'm in MA, and in the process of buying a 2019 Premier. I think it's down to $1,500 bucks now...Rich
Indeed it did go down - I hadn't noticed...

"Starting on January 1, 2019, MOR-EV will be extended and shift its focus to meet the demands of the industry by supporting only qualifying battery electric vehicles up to a $50,000 sales price with a $1,500 rebate. Current rebate levels and qualifications will continue through December 31, 2018 and consumers must submit a complete MOR-EV rebate application within three months of the vehicle purchase."

You can go if you have time but I think this is a typical “trade in and upgrade” tactic. Don’t be pressured. Otherwise, ignore it.

Indeed, it turns out to be a dealer specific trade up deal, and not specific to the Bolt, despite how the flyer read. And... I switched my "dealer affiliation" to one closer to me that doesn't even sell Bolts [still] for routine service. So it would have been a total waste of time. And... the MA EV rebate went down Jan. 1 by 1k, making any trade-up deal less sweet. Oh well. I like my 2017, funky front seats and all.
