The wife is really bummed about the reduction in battery life due to the recall on the 2017 she currently has, and she's evaluating dealer offers on a 2021 Premier that's just made it off the boat. Is there any chart / info that lists differences between the two years? TIA.

Nothing comprehensive, but for a start:
  • Updated DC charging profile (same peak speed, but gradual taper to 100%). This results in faster DC charging times to 80% or higher.
  • Softer, more well-cushioned seats.
  • HD rear camera (very noticeable).
  • Softer suspension and ride.
  • Larger battery (about 6 kWh of additional, usable energy). This results in about 10% better range on a charge.
  • Sliding sun visors.
You would lose some things, though, such as rear keyless entry buttons (an idiotic downgrade in my opinion) and seat pockets for rear passengers.

The 6 kWh of "additional usable energy" just a function of not having the battery recall issue? Or is the battery pack actually bigger / better? Any idea on the advertised useful range?

I'm assuming the house charger we installed for our current bolt will continue to work for the new one ...

battery is bigger and the newer bolts are rated at ~259 miles of range if memory serves. If you call GM they might help you initiate a buy back for the 2017, although several on this forum have not gotten very far with GM....some others have.

Anyone volunteered a best number to call? Wonder what they're doing for the dealers that are taking the afflicted units in trade ...

I know about the standard option packages, but when we bought the 2017, we could have optionally purchased stuff like a cargo net and a tire inflator. Anyone suggest a link to where I can see similar add-ons for a 2021? (Never mind the inflators sucked...)

Just to add to your other reply, yes your current charger would work, and the newer battery is 66kwh vs 60kwh in the older version.

I am not sure what number you are looking for. For the Bolt EV Concierge team call 833 382-4389. If you want a buyback, this is where to start.
I started my buy back yesterday with a ‘gm’ rep. He responded by saying they will contact my dealer and get back with me next week. Apparently the Corvette concierge is the same #.
We have a 19 we bought new, cash. Love the car but would prefer a generous offer and wait for a used 2020 Premier and start over on their dime.
Latest news that a batt separator film is the culprit, suggest to me, that a major fix ( R & R ) won’t be in the near term. Unfortunate liability.
We’ll see what happens..

Thanks for the number. I have my "case number" and am awaiting a call back. They asked for the dealer's name that we would be doing the purchase thru, so maybe the buyback is something they're working thru the dealers?

It is ~6 kWh more usable energy than your original 2017 prior to the recall, so yes, it is a larger pack. As for the useful range, it's about about 10% more than your 2017. They are very similar cars, so whatever you see in your typical driving in your 2017, you can just add 10% to that.

Yes, your home charger would still work.

I'm really curious if it's just a matter of installing the hardware and wiring to make that work again. In the 2017 service manual, the K84 Keyless Entry Control Module X2 Pins1 and 2 are what get the signal from those switches. Maybe the module is a different part number in the newer cars though, who knows. Based off the wiring diagram it looks like it just pulls the pins low (connects to ground) to trigger them. Really basic wiring.

Could be, but in addition to the wiring, you'd need to source and replace the rear door handles.
