Hello,

I searched and couldn't seem to duplicate the problem that I am having. If I have somehow overlooked the topic and someone can direct me to a pre-existing thread that would be great.

My 2018 Bolt EV has been great and I have just over 10,000 miles on it with relatively no problems. I drive a lot for work and use my personal vehicle. This morning I took the Bolt off of the charger and there was no problem at all. The battery was fully charged. I attempted to connect at a public station this afternoon close to work and the charger goes in, but does not lock in place. My first assumption was that the public charger was broken. I tried 3 more public chargers with the same problem. I went to the back of the car and got the emergency cord that came with the car. The factory emergency cord also would not lock in place or charge the car. I have since tried to connect my home charger. None of them will lock in place and charge the car.

I reached out to the only Electric certified Chevrolet dealership in my city here in Baton Rouge and they can not look at the car for two weeks. They also stated that they can not provide a loaner, even if I show them that the vehicle won't charge.

Has anybody else had this issue and have you found a fix without having to go to the dealership?

Thank you!

I had the same problem before. Turned out the car's charging port was broken possibly due to pushing the connector into it too hard. One way to test this is to push the port to see if it yields. Another way is to hold the port with one hand and push in the connector gently to see if it latchs on. It was fixed by the dealership under warranty.

Could be the square shoulder protrusion on the car side J1772 connector plug has broken off and the J-Handle hook has nothing to lock on to?

Check it with a flashlight....

This piece definitely is not on mine. My car appears to have a metal latch on the bottom that the shoulder of the connector plug clicks over and a metal piece that flips down over the cord. I tried my Chargepoint home charger again and it works fine, but no other charger including the regular 110 emergency cable that came with the car. I looked to see if maybe something broke off of the home charger in the latch system, but didn't see anything there.

I guess as long as I can charge at home until the 18th when the dealer looks at it, I will be ok. It is really annoying that there is only 1 technician in the whole area and he is on vacation. At least that is why they are telling me it will take two weeks.

You only have ONE Chevy dealer in easy driving range? (You do not have to bring the car to the place you bought it for warranty service - you can go to any dealer.)

Here's the actual Bolt J1772 connector... if your metal or plastic (circled in red) is broken- there is nothing for the J-Handle to lock on to.

Also, some of the older public J-Handles had an o-ring inside them that made a good lock (or even any lock at all) difficult as they aged.
I've pulled some of them off the public chargers and now they lock on perfectly.

We have five that are fairly close, but only one that is EV certified. I've scheduled appointments with the other dealers and then someone calls back and cancels the appointment and says they don't have the tools or the tech to do warranty work. They keep saying that it is the Corvette guy that is certified for the Bolt. I took about a 60 mile drive this morning to drop it off at a dealer outside of the area.

This is exactly what mine looks like. My home charger started locking on again perfectly with no issues. I even checked to see if maybe something had broken off of my Chargepoint home charger and that was blocking other chargers, but can't find anything there.

I've tried the Entergy chargers provided by the city, the ones in my work garage, the Chargepoint chargers at Whole Foods, and my 110 cable that came with the car and the only one I can get to connect at all is my home charger.

I took it to a dealer about 60 miles away this morning and they are going to look at it tomorrow. I rented a car and Chevrolet said if they are able to duplicate the problem, they will reimburse me for the rental. I'm crossing my fingers. I love my car and have no regrets prior to this problem at just under 11,000 miles.
