I purchased a new 2019 BOLT LT last Wednesday. It left the dealer with 47 miles on the odometer. Two days later, as I was driving home from work on a busy highway, the car JUST DIED, no warning, no nothing. I was able to make it over to the bike lane and tried to restart the car, but with no luck. Kept getting the same "initializing" screen that others with with this same problem that I now know about after research on this board have had. Got a tow through ONSTAR and they brought me to the dealer where I purchased the car. Battery is showing 0 miles of charge, although it had 187 when I left work 2 miles before it died.
Now that I have done some research I realize this is the same problem that was occurring with the 2017s (and maybe 2018s). Well, GM hasn't fixed it. To say I am disappointed is a massive understatement. I am not an EV newbie, the BOLT was my third purchase, having owned a Leaf and also a Spark EV. I do not want the car back -- as far as I'm concerned GM sold my dealer a defective car and then it was sold to me. My dealer doesn't currently have a certified EV technician so they can't even begin to diagnose the problem unless they tow the car somewhere else. I have only driven gas-electric hybrids or full BEVs since 2001, and I will never go back to an ICE, but GM has lost my business. I hope they get their act together before they drive more potential EV drivers away.
