well, i have tons of cool twisty mountain roads within 100 miles, the whole Santa Cruz Mountains, but you're right, 200 miles would be better. An electric Miata would be cool. But then the problems. Say it had 100 mile range. Worthless. A spirited afternoon drive would wipe that out. And the rural/remote places fun drives would happen are DCFC wastelands. So make it 200 miles. Better, but now a heavier more expensive car.
We can only hope that solid state batteries with their supposed 30-50% weight reduction happen soon.
My EUV would lose about 35% range in the winter, even where it's relatively mild (such as western WA where I live). My Niro is losing about 25% when the electric heater is used, and it's half the energy draw as the electric heater in the Bolt. Even in this milder climate, a heat pump would make a tremendous difference in heating power used. How big a deal is the heat pump? Here in Wisconsin, half of the year is cold.
I have mixed feelings about an electric Miata. The stick shift is a big part of the experience. I wouldn't have bought an automatic transmission Miata in a million years. If I had more 💰, I would probably have some ICE sports car right now, and it would have to be a stick even if it's slower than the same thing with an automatic.I have a buddy who lives in Santa Fe. He's done some electric conversions over the years, one being an older Miata. He did this probably at least 10 years ago, maybe longer. I think it only has around a 60 mile range but then he's got old batteries in there.
The thing is a rocket and still handles like a Miata. Definitely a toy and not a regular-use vehicle.
His fulltime EV is a Mach-E.
Faster DC charging. So what would be a reason to buy a new Bolt vs my 2022? Less lb ft and range is the same.
No sticks for me ever. My traffic is non stop stop and go with a red light every 200ft.I have mixed feelings about an electric Miata. The stick shift is a big part of the experience. All i care about is it being smaller and more HP. I am getting the itch for another Vette as it has been just over a year since the cane flooded mine.Faster DC charging.
Heat pump.
V2H capability.
Of course, not everyone will care about these things.
Well a Vette would be smaller and have more horse power. But think how impractical it is. You won't be on the Vette forums talking about how you just towed 2000lbs of hay or loaded 40 bags of mulch in the back of the car.All i care about is it being smaller and more HP. Could never get a C8 as no room to carry stuff and don't like the looks. C7 only,Well a Vette would be smaller and have more horse power. But think how impractical it is. When I bought my Bolt they let me sit in the shiny new C8 vette. Not a fan of the weird wall-o-switches. I look at the sales person and mentioned that not being a hatch back where would I put the dog. He pointed at the passenger seat. I said then where would my wife sit. He smiled and said he would leave her home and take the dog. Can't say I disagree.![]()
I'm of the school that its more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car fast. Only place you could even begin to push a late model Corvette is on a race track against other matching C's, and then you're going so **** fast that any slight slipup results in major destruction.Could never get a C8 as no room to carry stuff and don't like the looks. C7 only,
1) Individual repairs on used & abused vehicles can be (& are) much higher than repairs even on low-end newly purchased cars(if one is a featherfooter from the beginning). Yes, it takes few major repairs on used & abused vehicles before the price difference between used & abused vehicles & low-end new cars is used up. Most auto forum posters are not low-end new vehicle buyers, tho. Used & abused vehicles are burdensome for poor people. Yes, rich people keep thinking poor people AREN'T poor.1)You can pay for a lot of repairs before you use up the price difference even aside from the warranty remnant.
2) No matter how much you whine and play the class warfare card.......
My Ioniq 6 is rated at only 15 miles more range than the new Bolt (270 vs 255 miles). The faster charging makes more of the range reasonable to use. I feel like the range is infinitely better on the highway trips than my 2018 Bolt was, I am able to charge to 90% in less time than it took to charge the Bolt to 50%. So the faster charging definitely makes highway range feel much more capable. In terms of the 2027 Bolt range... how is the highway efficiency and range? For most people, range matters most on longer trips, which are usually mostly highway.
Yeah...but if you had the 300 hp perhaps you would have gotten away and not been...Behind Bars! LOL...sorry...okay, I deserve whatever you throw my way!50 miles a week can be done on a bicycle. No need for 300 hp.
Massive overkill, could have gotten a old Nissan leaf, Fiat 500e, Chevy Spark EV Etc. There isn't enough EV saturation to do highly specialized fun cars, Fiat 500e not selling well, mini Electric not selling as well as it shouldWell i avg 50 miles a week so never charge outside of the house. I was hoping for 300hp or a smaller car. Maybe a EV Miata will come out one day.
True, rebates and taste me to buy my first and probably last new vehicle at 63No EV's will sell like they did taking the tax breaks away. I got a deal on my 2022 that was never used for 20k last Nov.
Same here on my 2020 in 2021 when i got it. But got 0% gent.I didn't get any tax break on my '21 Bolt. Didn't stop me from buying one!
