Hey Folks,
Been lurking since 2016. I have a chance to buy a fully loaded 2017 Premier but it has 34,000+ miles in roughly 17 months. The price is close to what KBB, NADA and CarGurus report. One owner and clean record, but the mileage gives me pause. And should I consider an extended warranty since there's only about 1K left on the basic. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thanks!

Manufacture date?

Can you obtain the service and update records?

How many miles/year do you forecast you will be driving?

How much is an extended warranty, and what exactly would it cover? (Extended warranties vary)

The traction battery warranty is 8 years/100,000 miles. If you're driving 10,150 miles/year then you could theoretically be covered for another 6.5 years. If the extended warranty cost $1700, and the Bolt cost $27,300...you may be able to find a Bolt with more available warranty for less than $29K? If it's a smokin' deal, like sub $26K, I would take it without hesitation.

The mileage wouldn't worry me. I have over 39,000 miles and I have seen hardly any battery degradation. We have someone on the forums that has over 60,000 miles and hasn't noticed any battery degradation. I would avoid the extended warranty, they aren't worth it IMO. The powertrain and battery are still under warranty. What state are you in? If the Bolt is hard to get it may be a good option to buy used.

Thanks for the feedback!

shotel, appreciate the warranty/mileage breakdown. i average around 13k a year though my habits may change (for better or worse) with the bolt. that leaves me about 5 years of battery warranty coverage. I would be shocked to find a used fully-loaded Premier for less than 28 unless there were major strings attached. From the VIN, I think it's a Nov/Dec 16 build.

disco, like you I'm not into the extended warranties. I got it once when I was young and with my first car purchase. I got lucky and it did help me with some repairs (GMC Jimmy aka Chevy Blazer). Never added it since then, but this new tech makes me wonder. I'm in SoCal so it's not "hard" to get, but I'm always after that elusive price/value combination.

this is a carmax transaction. I'm leaning towards getting it. Every other car I've seen is about 5K more with a lot less miles and some of those aren't fully-loaded.

I buy my Bolt with discount, I think you must research for the new car best price on the country, some states like Colorado have excellent price.

Or buy a Tesla online and don't get the finance advisor put a lot of things you don't need and cost big. The next purchase I go for a Tesla, I'm so happy with the Chevy Bolt, but I still feel uncomfortable with that practices and charges.
