What Are The Advantages Of Speed Control Using Thyristor?

This question is not related to electric cars, since they use MOSFETs to vary power toward the electric motor for speed control. I know what a thyristor is (it is also called a SCR or "Silicon Controlled Rectifier") as I taught electronics since 1981.
