I've just done that trade-in a couple of weeks ago. Carvana bought back my 2015 Prius (not Prime) for 11,5K. That allowed me to get a used 2017 Bolt from them for net total of 10,5K (fees included).

The outcome for this to be a long-term profitable investment (with the new battery) is far more likely than a fire. Plus I can charge outside both at home and at work. My daily commute is only 10-15 miles round-trip, so that it is easy to stay in the 30-90% SOC range.

You'll get a brand new battery in a number of months with an full eight year warranty.

The cheapest I have seen on Autotrader lately is $15K. There was One for $12K back in the Spring. I paid $16.5 for my 2019 at the end of July.
