RWD on the ID.4 is the worst implementation of RWD in decades. A car that could have been FWD, has no performance business being RWD and won't be driven by anyone who enjoys driving RWD for any of the reasons RWD is fun.

I don't even think the 2-liter Fox Body 'Stang was a worse implementation because at least they had 5.0L they designed it around and the 2L was an afterthought. VW specifically designed it this way! WTF!

Somehow, I totally missed this important piece of information.

FWIW, I went to the VW website and scanning pages of fluff, never saw RWD mentioned. I went back and read most of the ID.4 posts on here and didn't notice anyone who drove it mentioning the ID.4 is RWD.

That explains the low regen levels and the lack of true One-Pedal. In slick road conditions, too much RWD regen would result in an immediate skid.

Moot for us, as we would only consider the AWD version, which won't be available until late next year.

We were just shopping for a new car and looked at the VW ID.4 RWD base model as the AWD model was north of $50,000. I grew up driving ICE RWD cars that were terrible in snow and always getting stuck. We bought a Honda Civic Hybrid FWD after moving up to the Hudson Valley in 08 and it drove right through the winter without any problems. We've owned two FWD C-MAXs and never had problems getting stuck in winter. It's probably the Michelin Winter Tires we use on our vehicles that makes a difference. We just bought a 2023 Bolt EUV that will also get the Michelin X-ice tires and will post as to the experience. Picking the Bolt up on Jan 2nd!

For almost 50 years I've always made do perfectly fine with just two snow tires mounted on the front of my FWD cars.
Never had snow tires in my first 50 years of driving. Then with my purchase of some used tires for my front wheel car, I also got 2 snow tires for free. I’ve used them for the last 3 winters & love them. Man, FREE is great!
