Over in the Seattle area, the dealers had several metallic black i-Pace for sale @ $61,750; about a $20,000 markdown from MSRP. It was tempting to enter into negotiations, but ultimately stayed with the Bolt.

Yes, the i-Pace is 2X as luxurious as the Bolt, yes, it is AWD. But no, we just don't drive our BEV enough to enjoy the luxury and already have a paid-for ICE AWD SUV.

The I-PACE is one of my favorite EVs out right now, but for everything it offers as an all-around utility vehicle is mostly lost with the lackluster range and steep price tag. I would only be interested in the base model, with maybe one or two options, so for me, even $60,000 seems a bit steep.

For that kind of $, even though I'm no Tesla fan, I'd rather have a Tesla Model 3 or Y. At least it'd have regular OTA updates, an excellent very fast DC FC network and compatibility with the most charging standards in the US: Tesla's proprietary connector, J1772 (via free adapter), Tesla Supercharger and CHAdeMO (w/$450 adapter).

To each his own. If those are your hot buttons, a Tesla is for you. But just keep in mind, not everyone needs any of those whiz-bangs. Some just want a nice, comfortable, luxurious SUV to drive locally. Having AWD is very nice in the northern tier states. That almost described me, but I couldn't make them worth my Bolt and $35K.

...and the poor efficiency!

I thought it enough to look at the numbers, but buying a car is an emotional decision, not always a financial one.
The Jaguar evoked zero emotion in me.

Agree cars are definitely emotional decision for most buyers. A family member who's been in auto retail forever says, "Sell the want; if folks only bought a car when they really needed one and only bought what they can actually afford, we'd be hungry.

A friend has a Tesla and an i3 and is on the waiting list for a Rivian, so he's BEV-savvy. He test-drove an i-Pace and loved it; but needs a slightly larger SUV; said if the i-Pace were large enough for his family, he'd have bought it.

I really want the I-Pace to succeed, but 84kW max. charging rate is a non-starter for me.
Jaguar updated the charging curve after release. The I-PACE now charges at a peak rate of ~105 kW. Still, due to the efficiency, it only travels about as quickly a the Chevy Bolt EV, and only when using 150+ kW chargers. Also, it's a charging curve rather than a flat rate like the Audi e-tron, so the I-PACE travels significantly slower than the e-tron would.

Also of note, Jaguar released an update that allows owners to use more of their available battery capacity, so the real-world range is closer to 250 miles than the 234 miles of EPA range at release. Basically, Jaguar has retroactively improved the I-PACE since release, but I think we're really approaching the peak of what we can expect. Jaguar engineers might be able to squeeze another 5% efficiency out of it, but I wouldn't count on it.

To me, it's the next generation I-PACE to look out for. Apparently, LG is accelerating their transition to NCMA batteries, and a 300+ mile EPA range with a flat 150+ kW charging rate would make for a much more compelling I-PACE.

The soon to be introduced Volvo XC 40 Recharge looks interesting. I've been waiting patiently for this vehicle as well as the Mercedes EQC 400. Something to replace my diesel SUV.
I actually test drove the XC40 Recharge. Very roomy, comfortable and quiet with superb road manners, but imo not justifiable at twice the price of the Bolt. 55 to 60k is the norm.

Immediately after posting, there was the ad window to the right with the XC40 Recharge. Next will be like in Total Recall where scanners post ads based on reading your mind.
