I’m an expat living in London for the last few years, but planning to be back in January. I’m planning to buy a 2020 Bolt on my return (maybe a 2019 if I can find a good deal, but the HD upgrade on the cameras may push me to 2020). I test drove a Bolt before I left and was thinking about buying one, but my biggest complaint is the (IMHO) annoying white trim on the black dash. I’m going to go for a premier model, so the seats will be black, but that white trim really annoys me.

Anyone heard of an aftermarket solution? I have no experience with painting car parts, but is this something a custom auto shop could do? Or should I just suck it up?

Spraying the white trim on the top-front of the doors would be easy, because you can remove them. The white trim around the dash would require so much masking that you might as well do the whole dash and eliminate the reflections in the windshield.

My return to the US got delayed a few months, but planning to be back at the end of March and am still leaning towards a Bolt (maaaaybe an i3, but the difference in range/cost...). I wish there were other small EV options (e.g. VW ID3) but that white dash on the Bolt is just an eyesore. Thinking about taking advantage of the lower cost and taking it straight to a shop who can paint the white dash elements to match the rest of the dash. Thoughts?

Great job on the "before & after" photos! I agree the "after" photo is much more attractive.

I'm not sure what the Bolt design team was going for when they picked the different colors/textures. They could have done better.

That said, it doesn't bother me enough to go through the hassle of getting it changed. After a while I got used to it, and now I don't even notice the white stuff.

On our Bolt, I DID use black-out tape to cover the chrome bar above the center screen. This greatly reduced the previous blinding glare from sunlight reflection.

I dunno, the white trim has grown on me over the years. I suspect that at least part of the reason they went this route was to accentuate the blue LED light strip that comes on around this trim.

Agree wholeheartedly with the anti-chrome sentiments though. I’ve already bought the vinyl tape to mask it but I just haven’t gotten around to doing it. The Chevy emblem on the steering wheel has caused me temporary blindness as well.

My 2017 Bolt has the white trim with black and I find the colors very appealing to the eye. Solid black to me is just ugly. But each person has different likes. What ever the color, the Bolt is the best car ever made by Chevrolet.

lol am reading all the different posts . . . I like it white the way it is, I like black lol. Am very happy with my Bolt! but I would not have bought it with white seats. I know I would of hated looking at it every time I got in the car. the white dash trim is equally unattractive. I love mc gyvers post of that dark interior bolt. to me it looks great, but I read someone said it was boring like other car. To each his own. But frankly, am used to the white dash now. Still don't like it but I've accepted it and it's ok. If I could change it I would though, but not willing to do it myself and take the risk of screwing it up.
