I'm planning a road trip from Bakersfield to Las Vegas. Yes, I know an ICE car would involve less range anxiety. Yes, I know there are lots of posts about Victorville to LV and back. But those of us who want to drive an EV from NorCal need some words of wisdom.

It seems to me that elevation gain, specifically the Tehachapi Pass is the impediment from doing it all the way thru in one go.

I'm guessing I'll need about 4-5 hours of L2 charging along the way. My plan was:
1) after going up from Bakersfield, recharge in Tehachapi....this could be three hours. Tehachapi Depot Museum, I'm on my way.
2) Hour or two in Barstow. Movie theater is close by.
3) Maybe an hour at the Mad Greek charging with my Clipper Creek LCS-30.

Anyone done this trip? How'd it go?

Oh and I think I'll be just a little early for the EVGO station being put in in Baker. That'll be a game changer.

Thanks in advance for your proferred pearls of wisdom.

I have looked at this a couple of times..

I would try to get to Mohave Airport cafe for breakfast, with L2 charger in the parking lot. Also, a rumor of many chargers being installed in Baker, CA. The majority to be Tesla UMC, so get an adapter. State Line casino, forget the name, had L2. And then on to all those DCFC chargers in Vegas at the Terrible Hearbst stations. Almost forgot Barstow, but no fast chargers, so extended lunch break. Truth be told, I rented ICE. But next time...

Humm...

Starting out with a full charge (90% - 100%)
Bakersfield to Barstow 131 Miles along Hwy 58

Days Inn 1590 Coolwater Ln, Barstow, CA 92311
(Six ChargePoint Stations next to the pool)

Barstow to Primm 113 Miles via I-15

Whiskey Pete's Hotel & Casino
100 West Primm Blvd., Primm, NV 89019
(Single charging station is located next to the Fuel station,
on the west side of I-15. ChargePoint RFID card required.)

...or be ambitious and drive past Primm another 26 Miles to

The M Resort Spa Casino
12300 South Las Vegas Boulevard Henderson, Nevada 89044
(Two ChargePoint stations located on the top floor (roof) and
first level of the parking structure. )

Just a few miles more and there is a DC Fast Charging station

Terrible Herbst (it's a gas station)
11330 Southern Highlands Parkway, Las Vegas, NV, 89141

I'll defer to the more experienced distance drivers as to how
long you may expect it will take you to charge at each stop to make the next leg.

I fully charge and drive to Victorville. It adds miles but you save time going to the evgo fast charger there. There to the fantastic evgo at Baker by the thermometer. There to Vegas no prob. One of the hotels charges for FREE with valet for like $10! Can't remember.... Maybe Excaliber or something..... Hard to trust the hotel valet chargers - costs a lot and don't guarantee your car will charge!!! Terribles is good but usually 34kw.... Soon Barstow Walmart will open Evgo and we will all be soooo happy!

And you can always drive slower. You are going to get 250 miles at 55 mph and 300 miles at 45 mph. (Or close). Just drive with your blinkers on.
