Battery replacement recall remedy tracking summary

62206 Views 446 Replies 82 Participants Last post by  atc98092
This post is a table summarizing the battery replacement recall remedy scheduling and completion. It is derived from posts in Post when you are Notified to have your Battery Replaced and other public postings. It was formerly post #53 of that thread.

Please post your updates in the thread linked above.

Tip: to find out if your car is eligible to schedule the remedy now, do one of the following:
If you see "incomplete" or "open", your car has an open recall that it is eligible to receive the remedy for. If you see "incomplete, remedy not yet available", your car has an open recall but cannot receive the remedy yet.

Quick summary so far of reported replacements or eligibility for replacement:
  • Specials = special cases (e.g. waiting at dealer with "bad battery codes", previously replaced battery in late 2018).
  • All = presumed all except for (possible) special cases for still waiting row.
  • Most, Many, Some, Few = as described, includes special cases other than still waiting row.
  • NR = none reported, presumed none except for (possible) special cases.
  • NDS = new dealer stock
  • KR, US = original battery origin for 2019 model year cars.

Yeah. My 2022 sitting on the lot has been there since last July. Still waiting on a battery. Dealer has no batteries. All used cars done in our area. All but the dealer stock. And can't get a battery as they have to go to the new ones I guess.
... isn't the assembly plant shut down until at least the 21st, though, for the model year switch-over, as @SpicyBolt noted? Because of that, there should be lots of packs available for the dealer cars over the next couple of weeks.

That being said, I haven't seen any new VINs come up recently. My spidey senses are telling me tomorrow is going to be the day for a lot of us who are still waiting.
I don't know. Talked to concierge yesterday and all they could say was sorry the parts aren't available. Don't know how they built all them at the factory with no parts(batteries). I checked all the VIN's on the dealer lot and at least the one I have a deposit on has the lowest VIN number. Bonus I guess.
... isn't the assembly plant shut down until at least the 21st, though, for the model year switch-over, as @SpicyBolt noted? Because of that, there should be lots of packs available for the dealer cars over the next couple of weeks.

That being said, I haven't seen any new VINs come up recently. My spidey senses are telling me tomorrow is going to be the day for a lot of us who are still waiting.
I hope you are correct.

This morning I was at my dealer for the 80% software update. I asked the Bolt service writer how the replacements are coming along at this dealer. He said it's slowed to a crawl. He ordered a pack for a 2017 in mid June, and it hasn't arrived yet. He also said they still have 7 new stock Bolts waiting for packs.

I went out to look at them, and did see one with a Sold sign, and it also had a note on it saying it was fixed. I assume that means a new pack.

This is one of the top Chevy EV dealerships in the Twin Cities, so I was surprised to hear this. I had been thinking that maybe only the more marginal EV dealerships were having trouble getting packs.
Fingers crossed for tomorrow....

Fingers crossed for tomorrow....
It seems to me like a new batch of '22 dealer VINs turns to 'open' or 'incomplete' every 2nd Wednesday, and the last I spotted was July 6, so tomorrow is my barely educated guess on this. Will update with stats tomorrow if I see any movement.

I'm tempted to write a script to automate checking all the outstanding VINs and provide everyone with the real-time transparency that GM won't...
but since I don't really know how to 'write a script', I've just set up Visualping: #1 Website change detection, monitoring and alerts to alert me if my recall status changes.

You can add VINs to the list on the main page, VINs are updated every night ( might change to every other day, depending on how many VINs are added )

If a VIN with no active recall is added, they're discarded and an error is shown stating there is no recall information for that VIN.

@MichBolt If it's okay to post, ill get it all set up for the public to use.

Font Rectangle Parallel Pattern Number

You'd type in a VIN to be added to the list, When a VIN is added its status is pulled at the time of adding, Then que'd for an update on the next midnight cycle.
Rectangle Font Parallel Number Circle

When adding a vin, you'll get one of two messages.

No identifying information is saved, the only thing saved is the VIN.
To reduce the load on the API and update times... I might change it to update the ones that are Incomplete limited or no parts... and not refresh the open ones... for obvious reasons.

That's great, I'm impressed & looking forward to trying it out!

If you're open to suggestions for features, I was thinking it would be good to be able to set a flag to track dealer stock and owner-held 2022 models separately.

The other thing would be to calculate stats on what % / # of the cars on the list change status every day so that we can estimate the rate of swaps.

Thanks!!

It should be able to track all of the EVs and EUVs. I don't have any vins to test with that are customer owned and awaiting for batteries...

If anyone wants to check it out. You can visit it @ Bolt Recall
I can look into adding an option to select customer or dealer stock when I get home from work tonight.

Quick update from my ex-district service manager, the latest list of VINs is still from July 6th

Ahh, thanks! I was matching to Incomplete. Limited or No Parts but for customer-owned ones, they're listed as Incomplete. Remedy not available

The following has changed,

The list is now searchable!, instead of looking through 100's of VIN's just type in a part of yours!
You can now pick whether it's dealer or customer stock when adding a vin to the list.
Added total number of vins at the top, with a basic breakdown...

So, From what I've seen GM updates vins to OPEN in batches, I currently do not check the status of VIN's that are in OPEN status, only the incomplete ones.

Unless you're talking about when it changes from Open to Closed, and the battery has been replaced by the dealer?
I'd need a vin of a bolt that has been swapped and has the recall in closed status to test with and see what the API I call outputs.

1G1FY6S04N4111274 was moved to closed status on 7/6 if you want to test with that one, it just shows no active recall now.

I was thinking if we have a list of say, 200 vehicles, and on 7/6, 20 of them switched from 'limited parts' or similar (no battery available) to 'open' or similar (battery available) and 15 of them switched to 'no recall' (swap complete), then it would log the following:
- 7/6/2022:
-20 out of 200 vehicles (10%) were allocated batteries
-15 out of 200 vehicles (7.5%) had battery swaps completed

That way, after a few updates we can see if the replacements are speeding up or slowing down.

This is a great tool, thanks so much for putting in the work and sharing it with us!

So the api I call returns nothing, when I get home I'll have to tweak the scripts that pull vins, and if it's empty then move its status to battery replaced.

Only issue I can see is that bolts that didn't have the recall can be added and would instantly get the status of battery replaced as they both output the same status...

Unless I only allow ones already in the database to return nothing... and still not allow bolts with no active Recalls.
So I added my list to the tracker and made a summary for the dealer stock, see below. A few points to note:
  • The starting point is this week, so it doesn't include any vehicles with finished swaps yet. Based on the recent NHTSA report, likely around 1000 dealer stock vehicles have already been done.
  • This sample represents about 10-15% of the outstanding dealer stock, enough to give a rough idea of how they are progressing overall.
  • The summary implies that swaps in the 4112xxx+ VINs haven't started yet, but that's not the case, I've seen a few 4112's and 4113's get done over the last month or so. There just happen to be no open ones in our sample.

mine is a 4115 with a new battery -- from the stranded at factory undelivered to dealers batch -- if those numbers were in the NHTSA report you would likely see a large percentage of those with new batteries -- I got one by chance -- it was not listed with the in-transit on the chevy inventory site --- it was ordered a year ago by another customer so it was "sold / not available"

Going by this, my 4113 isn't going to get a battery any time soon. Canada seems much slower than US too... ugh.

Yeh mine is a 4109, and still haven't heard anything about it. At this rate. It seems it would be faster to order a 23...
Mine is a 4107 and I got a text from the dealer Friday saying the battery was expected to arrive by 8/21. I'll believe it when it happens...
Has your recall status changed to open?

Yes. Not sure when it changed, but think it was in late June.

Note that a valid Bolt VIN for a car where the recall remedy has been done will show no recall on the GM web site. I.e. a car with the recall that is open will see the recall disappear after the battery is replaced.

It may be worth retaining such VINs and displaying them as "remedy complete or not recalled".
