Based on a link found here at chevybolt.org I ordered a donut spare from Black Lab Tire on EBay

My trouble is that it doesn't quite fit in the wheel well in my 2017 Bolt.

To their credit, Black Lab Tire has offered to refund my $ and pay return shipment, but that's not what I'm after...I want this to work before I head out on a 2000+ mile road trip.

Any thoughts / ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Based on what my feeble brain remembers from postings ~2 years ago, some people cut the black styrofoam in the lowest trunk layer to hold a jack, "changing tools" and a small electric air pump. Then they let the air out of the spare tire until it fit into the space above. According to them, there is no reason to carry the spare in a "full-of-air" state when you can inflate it "on demand".

No donut spare will fit in the well. It is not actually made for a spare, but is intended as a space for a Bose sound system and/or air compressor, etc.

This was mentioned in in one of the many pages of spare tire threads. Sorry you missed it.

I see surgeonFWW posted at the same time. I must have missed the uninflated post. Seems like it might work. But what a PITA!

Thank you both. I missed the detail about no spare actually fitting.

I'd be up for deflating the spare and carrying a 12 V compressor. I already own a good one by Viair - far better than the typical mass market units.

I agree that it is a hassle to have to inflate a spare tire, but pales in comparison to trying to arrange for a tow in from the boondocks to a (probably closed) tire store.
