I think parking lot bans came after GM recalled all Bolts. I do remember the 50 foot rule being announced well after seeing reddit posts about parking lot bans.
EDIT: By the way, you realize that 50 foot "rule" is not really a rule? They essentially walked that back with their most recent announcement and clarification.

Yes, I know it isn't a real thing. But I seemed to remember this coinciding with (perhaps not the first) several posts of new places Bolts weren't allowed to park.
My memory is similar. I don't recall seeing a lot of social media buzz about parking lots banning Bolts until the 50 ft rule thing blew up here.

So you can see, the bans started before the "50 foot rule". It all started when all Bolts were recalled back in late August.

I used this advice and added ".json" to the end of the reddit post URL
And then, I looked for a "created" field and got a value that looks like this:
Then you take that number and use a tool that converts Unix timestamps into readable dates.
And voila, you can see on September 5th, Bolts were starting to be banned from parking lots.

No, as I've always stated, Dan Flores should have never said what he said. At least, not in the way he said it.
I think photographs of parking lot bans on reddit/twitter contributed way more than Dan Flores' 50 foot mistake.

FWIW, Bolts are pretty common here in the SF Bay Area. Within a 2 house radius of where I live, on my street, there are 3 other Bolts (next door neighbor, house across then over 1, another one 2 houses away). We have over 4 dozen in my work's EV/PHEV registry.

They are not common in the DC area. Nobody bats an eye at my Bolt (I think they think it's a Spark, the gas version). Nobody seemingly knows or cares... hence, I don't believe that Facebook comment at all with regard to DC.
A GM spokesperson opened his mouth and talked about parking 50 feet away from other vehicles, even though that has never appeared in any GM written recommendations other than for crash-damaged vehicles. But lots of media picked it up and spread it around, probably increasing the tendency to enact parking bans.
The bans were happening weeks before Dan Flores made that mistake.

Anybody else find that these notes needlessly sound passive-aggressive. No need to say "Thank you for your compliance!" or "we apologize for your inconvenience" at the end. The message was LOUD AND CLEAR in the previous sentence. Indeed. The worst part is whoever is making these decisions out of fear, paranoia and not knowing the facts is likely they have no idea that plenty of other non-EVs have been recalled for and caught fire while switched off (e.g. examples in post 69).
Or, if they do, they figure it'll just be such a small % (when spread out across the US) that it won't hurt them that much vs. going around banning tons of other vehicles (e.g. the Hyundai, Kias, BMWs, Ram trucks, etc.)
Unfortunately, I see no signs that my work's Bolt ban is letting up despite it being a waste of a bunch of my time (and taking away from my productivity) to look for alternative transportation.
Or they're Tesla share owners and want to indirectly manipulate stock prices by smearing the US' distant 2nd most popular EV?

So, in doing some digging, it's no surprise I found EV buyers beware – fires, scarce charging times, and parking restrictions from the "Heartland Institute". I wasn't aware that climate change denier groups were so well organized until I'd watched a Frontline ep on them years ago (In Shift, Key Climate Denialist Group Heartland Institute Pivots to Policy). Along the way, I found Climate Change Skeptic Group Seeks to Influence 200,000 Teachers.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're part of who's behind fanning the flames here and causing these bans.
