Unless they choose to extend the expiration date yet again, that's it. We have less than a year now to enjoy the diamond lane. However it has been extended in past, so who knows? Maybe again???

Historically though, they have allowed the stickers to die. The original ones were gold, or yellow and they were for standard hybrids. Those stickers did die and cars with the gold stickers on them are no longer welcome in the diamond lane without at least one passenger like any other car.

One of my best friends had a Prius with the gold stickers and when the stickers died, he missed the HOV lanes so much that he went out and bought a Nissan Leaf just to get that access again, but the Leaf is such a terrible car because of it's short range, he kept the Prius too to do a lot of his driving and the Leaf is literally just to go to work and back. I'm not sure what he's going to do when the white stickers die.

CA has spent and is still spending money on this scam. They will certainly offer HOV lane
stickers at a cost. I was reading something about changing the way we apply for stickers
and keeping limits on the available options. IIRC, it was somewhere on this forum.

What will happen? Is the state going to extend the expiration towards the end of the year? Any chance they will eliminate the program entirely and EVs won't be able to have diamond lane access at all anymore?

Anyone know what's happened in the past with these stickers?

AB544 provides for a one time extension of the stickers. See this thread:
