[CA] Rental car reimbursement while waiting for buyback or battery modules replacement?

10314 Views 55 Replies 21 Participants Last post by  BarterBolt1
2020 Bolt LT in CA w/strict lemons laws and wildfire risks. I live in an apartment community with a shared underground garage, so I have no way of parking it outside. If I don't feel comfortable operating it until the recall fix is done, will GM pay for the Bolt's storage fees and my rental car to get to work everyday?

For those who were able to secure a rental car, how did you do it? Did GM reimburse you?

Thanks in advance!

Has anyone had any luck getting reimbursed like they promised?
I am on my second month of a rental. Had to be a Chevy, under 46/day, through Enterprise, and I was promised reimbursement for rental and gas receipts.
Now on my second month, out a little over $3000 and I have asked for a new concierge, since I have not received a call back or email back in about a month, despite multiple attempts and complaints.
So has anyone actually received reimbursement?

This is so disgusting of Chevy. I will never buy another Chevy / GM product again. They have the audacity to run commercials for upcoming ev's while we wait with our thumbs up our asses.
I did get reimbursed but it was at the same time I surrender my car and got the check for the repurchase. They combined them both on the same check. Fuel and rental. I only had the rental for three weeks though before I just bought a new vehicle.

My rep before repurchase dept kept saying they would submit the rental and gas. Even said it was in processing and check would be coming but that never happened.

As frustrating as it is to be the one watching that commercial while waiting for your fix, GM has to look to the future. They have publicly made EV transition a big deal, so they can't exactly stop advertising until the recall is fixed. Would you prefer they simply not advertise EVs for the next year? That would be a terrible business decision.
I've been waiting for over a month for about $400 reimbursement. The EVC told me a few times all my papers were sent to a reimbursement guy. They claim they will call me weekly but that is a lie. So just wait and maybe get it done next year.

GM offered $46 a day plus tax for a rental, as well as all my gas costs reimbursed. They recommended Hertz or Enterprise but I used my Costco discount for a monthly rental from Avis for less than $46 a day for a large SUV. I should have pushed them to reimburse my extra toll charges since I can't get the EV discount with the non-EV car (or use the HOV lanes either for that matter) but I didn't go there.
Sorry this is sort of a mirror thread to the other but I wanted you all to know.
I did receive a reimbursement for a month rental and gas. But now I am three more months in with no refund, no reply, no nothing from Chevy.

What I posted in the other thread this morning.

So back to the concierge issue. I actually did get reimbursed for my first month. But now starting my fourth month in a few days I realized I'm out 3 months of rental reimbursement. So figure $1400x3 plus $200x3 gas it equals roughly $4800. I have not heard from the concierge in a few weeks. Last time I called I was told I had a new, yes, my 5th concierge. When they transferred me to her she was zero help, and partway through the call she said "quiet boo, mommy's got a client on the phone" so I am pretty sure I have been left to rot again. Emails do not get a reply or even an acknowledgement. Phone calls get nowhere.
Again if this is the PR Chevy wants, I will give my experience all day.
Today I am calling Chevy corp. I doubt it will make a difference but it's cheaper than the next step which is a lawyer. Love the car but you should all know Chevy gives zero f's about it's customers.

I got a call and it was my 8th EVC. She said it was going to be sent to the BRC dept and I would hear from them in 7 days. How many times have I heard this story. My one-week rental has not been reimbursed and they said that would be part of the final MSRP trade. I have already refused a buyback as I got a 2021 at a great price and could not replace it with buyback funds. Maybe the lawsuit is starting to add up and GM wants to get rid of 2021 Bolts so the payoff is lower.
This should be a warning to all current and potentially future Chevy customers.
I called yesterday and explained my situation to the ev people. I can't get them to reply to my voicemails or emails so I asked for a supervisor to contact me. I was promised a call would come yesterday....and no one called.
Half hour on hold today with brief conversations with someone obviously working from home with a house party in the background.....and I again was promised the same thing which I have zero doubt will happen.

Btw if you want to reach corporate you must write them. So that's how much they care to hear from you. Oh do you want to speak with someone? Are you having a problem? Don't call......just drop a letter in the mail and give it a shot! That's basically a middle finger.

So again, I am just letting you know that you all have been warned. This is a bad experience.

Not much new content here. People have had a hard time getting responses for months now. So has having call center agents working from home (since Covid started). So has having to write a letter to get the actual corporate office (although people can often figure out the e-mail addresses of higher ups since they are usually patterned).

We live in a world where keeping call centers properly staffed is impossible, and GM has clearly been behind on customer response from very early on. I'm sorry your experience sucked so bad, but let's be real for a moment and acknowledge that your experience is (sadly) par for the course.
Yes, that is my warning to anyone looking at doing business with General Motors, Chevy, GMC, or Cadillac. Expect this if you go ahead and purchase a vehicle from them and have any expectations of customer service.

Posters have reported much more responsive customer service earlier in the recall process, ie this past spring, before the 2nd recall and expansion to 2020-22 Bolts.
I'm calling one more time today. I expect I will not get to speak with my new concierge (must be just soooo busy, too busy to even return a single email or phone call), and then I will just file this in small claims court. The process is easy enough and it's a pretty cut and dry case.
We Bolt owners are a very very small subset of GM customers and have no weight on them to set up good customer service. Some are getting new batteries and are very happy and others got trades or buybacks. But for the majority, we just need to realize little will happen on the phone. I have had at least 8 EVCs call me with promises. The problem is there is no truth in their responses and no one likes to be lied to. Some day an insider will write an article on how GM and the EVCs had a plan to delay any responses to customers and methods to just keep promising they are going to call you with real answers.
I hope the lawsuits reflect the delays and lies that GM had in their responses and the frustration and anxieties they caused. I don't plan to install the software and live at 80% as I have a 2021 and may have to live with it for 2 years before I get a battery. They say the software will run diagnostics to weed out problem batteries but I don't buy it. The other software fixes did little and most of the problem batteries are in older vehicles.
The Ionic 5 looks very good to me as a future purchase. In a few years they will have all the bugs worked out and it will be a best seller. I doubt I would trust GM again as they are good at deceptions.

Christmas Eve update! Got a new ev concierge ...this would be my 6th? Reimbursement is being processed.....for the 2nd month....I am hoping the 3rd month was submitted also. This is about $3200 bucks for the two months. She was a pleasure to speak to.

Now the dealership had told me yesterday that they are shipping my Bolt to get the new battery installed and to replace the relay or whatever was broken. The ev concierge repeated what the dealer said, it would be about 14 days or so. I have a 2017 Premier.

It seems my Bolt will be fixed soon. I wonder what it will be worth with the new battery and warranty. It has 21000 miles.

So just before Christmas I get all this good news. It's probably the best Christmas present just dropping the stress level down so much.
I picked up my Bolt Wednesday. I have concerns. So they shipped it off to get the new battery. Now it makes gurgling noise like a waterfall when it is charging. I am not stressed, but slightly converned about it. If anyone has a suggestion....I cant imagine sending this mother back to the dealership. Seriously?

Also, as far as reimbursement, I have not received reimbursement for the last 2 months plus the partial month. My concierge said it was being processed, but nothing has shown up and I have left messages and emails that have gone unanswered

Mine will make gurgling noises also when DCFC when cold out. Original battery. I think this is normal.

I have not been reimbursed for the one week I had to rent and was told it will be finalized in the trade I am working on. So as always GM has delayed as many payments as possible unless you complain and call and call......
I guess they are overwhelmed and have very few real decision makers that have any authority to make payments.
