Is there a way to use Carplay without unlocking your iPhone? I swear I used to be able to do this, but now I have to unlock my phone every time. I hate that! I swear it used to be plug and play.

There’s an option under Settings-> Carplay. Look for the one for myChevrolet under cars. Theses an option you can turn on called Allow CarPlay while locked.

Just a small clarification, it's Settings -> General -> CarPlay

Such a setting should not be necessary. I asked at an Apple store, and they confirmed that CarPlay should start up on an iPhone without needing an explicit unlock.

This has been the setting on my iPhone ever since, but in my experience, CarPlay does not engage while locked on rare occasions, unlike OP where it seems to be a constant issue. The odd thing is, when it does happen, there are even rarer episodes that when unlocking still doesn’t coax the Bolt into starting CarPlay on the Infotainment screen. A quick unplug replug on the lightning cable does the trick. And to clarify, I’ve only used the original lightning cable that came with the phone.
