The center armrest (at least 2018 Premier) appears to slide forward, I think it was two stops. Found it by accident while pushing the button and slipping forward.

Odd thing is, it only opens when fully retracted to the rear. (oh, because when it is forward at stop 2 or 3, the door is no longer aligned over the storage compartment.)

pretty much had the same experience with my 2017. discovered the feature and later found you can't open the armrest. after figuring out why the armrest wouldn't open, decided that feature was too frustrating to ever use again.

I like it forward, just have to remember to slide it back if you want in. Or you can reach under and press the release manually with it still slid out (if you can find it - it is small). I believe someone made a mod to allow it to open when slid forward - involved disabling the latch.

I like the fact that you can't open the storage area if the armrest is slid forward... I make sure that when we go somewhere that uses valet parking I slide the armrest forward to lock the storage area from snooping parking attendants.

Nice idea, although the sliding cover that has to be moved back to open seems to be a fairly common design. The centre storage area on my Prius C worked exactly the same way. So "security by obscurity" may not be that effective in this case.

In my case, one of my daughters discovered it after getting bored and fiddling with everything in the car. I later found out that the feature was described in the manual.

Guys guys guys. Don’t give up so easily. It does still open. The arm rest isn’t “misaligned,” it’s just longer. Releasing the latch now just takes a different approach. This picture will explain.

Red is the lever you’re used to. Green is the lever you must now use. Feel for it, it’s there. You can still open the lid with it slid in the 2nd AND 3rd position.

you’re welcome ?

Cheers ?

If you are thinking/believing that only "guys" drive EVs (like Nissan CEO), you are treading on thin ice! If this is a non-gender "guys", then that is a different story.

I am Female and I say 'GUYS' all the time just to reference everyone. It may come from working at Police/Military. I don't mean it as disrespectful and I am sure others don't either.
I take no offense.
I also have a Pixie Haircut and a boyish face so I get called Sir A LOT. I also have a last name that is slightly hard to pronounce because it is long. People butcher it all the time I just nod and say Hi, I don't correct them either. I don't care, life is too short.
Just smile and move on
