I charged my 6 week old Bolt last night and hit the remote start this morning, it warmed up to the end of the first cycle and when I went out to drive away the charger cord wouldn't release from the car. I tried locking and unlocking the car, starting and turning it off, unplugging the (lvl 2) charger from it's power source but am stuck without transportation. I called Roadside and they said call the dealer, called the dealer they said call roadside. Any one else run into this misdirection and locked charging cord?

Someone else can chime in if I’m wrong, but there’s no electromechanical doohickeys for the match on level 2 chargers, only level 3. Sounds like just a physical latch issue. Yank harder?

Someone else had an issue with a public charger a while back, search the forum.

The only lock is the big button on the charge handle: there is no mechanical interlock on the car's side. Push the button and pull the handle while holding the button down, in a direction that is parallel to the direction of insertion.

Update, A tech told me to give the fender above the charger port a good thump, I tried the cord and it was still locked then gave the fender a good whack with my fist, I heard a "click" and the cord unplugged easily. The tech said the car's cord latch has been know to activate with the remote start and stick on occasion.

Thanks for the reply but I wouldn't know about level 2 charger cord lock system, I'm new to this. LOL

Thanks for the reply but I pulled until the cars cord connector base started to bend and so I stopped trying.

Thank you for sharing. I visit this forum in the hope to learn something new about the Bolt. Your post highlighted something new to learn that hopefully we all can benefit from.

Site is slow this AM with a database error trying to get this reply in. Frustrating enough that I considered stopping to visit the forum. Then I got to your post and was delighted to learn something new.

Thanks again. And hope I can actually post this without an error!

I have never used the remote start feature, so that may be why I have never experienced this problem.

Perhaps there is a locking mechanism for the charge handle in the Bolt after all.

Like you I have only heard of this problem with a DCFC station in Ontario. There is a mechanical latch. To release it--other than hitting the fender--is to go the charging display on the monitor and tell the car to stop charging. Otherwise I guess we have to hit the fender. ;)

I have a post on this forum about it somewhere.
