Wanted to caution everyone regarding the Chevrolet Premium Floor Liners. The drivers side liner can shift slightly, even while properly clipped. Then under full acceleration, the pedal gets stuck under the lip of the liner causing uncontrolled acceleration.

DURING AN EMERGENCY, A QUICK FLICK OF THE SHIFTER FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL DOES NOT WORK. THE SHIFTER MUST BE HELD FOR A LONGER DURATION, WHICH IS NOT INTUITIVE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ACCELERATING UNCONTROLLABLY AND BOTH HANDS ARE ON THE WHEEL.

Just put your foot on the brake pedal. The accelerator is ignored when the brake pedal is pressed, at least on my 2019. Even if my foot is only lightly touching the brake, I can mash the accelerator to the floor and it does nothing (no acceleration).

I did try that on my 2017.

On the brake pedal first, accelerator doesn't do anything.

If you press the accelerator FIRST, then the brake pedal SECOND, the car still shows power to the motor and does not cut the throttle.

I'll have to try that. I was trying to find a way to "power brake" a bit when testing 0-60 and could never get it to "recognize" the accelerator with my left foot on the brake.

Can a corner of the mat be cut off to allow clearance.?

I was thinking of doing that, or may be return to Chevy and get some Weathertech liners.

More importantly I wanted to let other owners know about this safety issue before it happens to them and there is an accident; or worse. Also that Chevy likely needs to update their design of the liner.

When learning to drive I remember being cautioned about turning off the ignition of a vehicle because of the potential to lock the steering wheel, loss of power steering and loss of power brakes.

Not sure if these concerns apply to the Bolt, I'll have to try this when I'm not accelerating at full throttle in freeway traffic.

UPDATE

Got a call back from Chevrolet corporate about 1-week after filing the complaint. Told I needed to take the Bolt to a dealer for diagnoses, there might be a dealer charge, and that they'd call back the next day.

The dealer confirmed that I'd installed the mat correctly (apparently some people leave their carpet mats underneath the liner) and that it was a design issue. Also because the 2017 Bolt is out of warranty there was nothing they could do without a charge. The Service Advisor suggested that I trim the edge from the mat.

Waiting for a call back from Corporate, they didn't call Thursday as stated. I'd figured there would be some sense of urgency considering what happened to Toyota not too long ago (link below for leisure reading).

So Chevy is asking you to pay to have a serious safety issue addressed.
You'd think they'd be looking into this very seriously.

Well this just happened to me, slammed on the brakes and the car do come to a screeching stop as my dog flew into the dashboard. This is a serious problem.

I'd really recommend filing a complaint with NHTSA. I'm guessing there are 1000 - 2000 Bolt owners that may have bought the premium liners and could have a stuck accelerator incident.

Still haven't gotten any traction or even a meaningful response from GM. I've been using the corporate contacts from Consumer Advocate elliott.org and working my way up the chain without any response from the first 2 listed. I've been giving 1-week for a response from each contact before working my way up the chain to the next.

Yes, those are the ones. I cut a 2 inch notch on mine to sole the problem. Sucks that I paid $200 for something that had to be modified, but it’s not a problem anymore.

Seems like a recall of the mats is needed, giving the customer a choice of:

• Refund.
• Modify the existing driver's mat.
• Replace driver's mat with a redesigned mat.

I'd also like to see a firmware update for all Bolts that cuts the throttle when the brake pedal is pressed.

According to a recent post in the Chevy Bolt EV and EUV Owners Group Facebook group, there is now a GM recall number N212345450 titled "Accessory Floor Mat May Cause Unintended Acceleration" dated October 14, 2021.
