Chirping under hood

I have a brand new 2020 (<200 miles) Chevy Bolt EV Premier. Whenever I shut the car off, there is a faint chirping sound that comes from under the hood that lasts for about 30 seconds. Whenever I open any door or lift-gate whether the car is turned on or not and whether or not I have the key fob with me, the car will start the chirping and it will go on for about 30 seconds and then stop. It will repeat this every time I open any door. It will make no sound from walking around close to or touching the car. I can't find anyone who has a car that does this and the dealer thinks it normal but should be checked out. There are no warnings on the car DIC or lights indicating a problem of any kind. Is this normal and if not what could be causing it? I reset all settings to the factory originals and it still does exactly the same thing. Has anyone had a similar experience.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like maybe the brake booster is acting up. That might be more like a clicking sound. But it usually makes the noise when a door is opened as you described.

This is much more of a chirp than a click. It lasts for almost exactly 30 seconds and sounds like it comes from the base of the computer rather than the booster area. While it's chirping I stepped on the brake and it had no effect on the sound. Going to the dealer on Thursday.

The odd thing is that it will make this noise if the car is not running or not even turned on without the motor running, whether I have the key or not and open any door, the car will also chirp when I first put it on charge. Chirping lasts 30 seconds routinely to a minute now and then. Seems like anything that disturbs the car "electrically" at any time will start the chirping. There's no indication of any after market stuff on the car although it has every option available. Don't see anything strange and there's nothing on the sticker or the dealer add-on list to indicate anything after market (DON'T KNOW ANY DEALER ADDING ON FREEBIES). Here's my hunch. According to the manual the car will make a chirp sound when plugged In to charge and will make various numbers of chirps depending on what's going on during the charge cycle. I have no idea whether the chirp I'm hearing is the same sound as these chirps (can anyone tell me?) since I've never heard the sound of a normal car charging. If it is, the problem is likely in the charging system or charging system programming. I suspect that any electrical disturbance is being interpreted by the car as a start in the charge cycle and if an actual charge is not started it's considered an upset condition, hence multiple chirps. Once when this happened there was briefly a solid red light and then a flashing red light on the charge status indicator but only on one occasion. The vehicle was fully charged and not plugged in at the time. Please recognize that I may also be FOS as I know absolutely noting about this car, just my engineering instinct!! Headed to the dealer on Thursday afternoon for service. Will post the result, I suspect I'll be driving home in a gas burner!!!!

Mine will make one single chirp when plugged in. That chirp supposedly comes from the pedestrian noise maker which can be disabled by fuse #34. Listened to your video again and clearly hear that click that does sound like a relay. The Bolt does have an alarm system that would explain your occasional red light you've seen.

One more thing - if you listen carefully you'll hear a click immediately followed by a chirp. Sounds a lot like a mechanical relay closing which adds to my suspicion of a charging recognition issue, by the way, there is no problem with the car accepting a charge and acting normally once the process starts.

Went to the dealer and had their Bolt technician look at and listen to the car. Apparently, according to the tech, this is a normal startup sound from the car. He said that it will occur when any door is opened and is basically the car doing a systems boot-up. There are no indications of any problems on the panel and the On-Star diagnostics didn't reveal any problems. Since I have no experience with the car I'll accept this explanation, after all the guy has been trained by GM on the car, although it doesn't seem to make a heck of a lot of sense. To all those who took the time to reply, I appreciate your time and interest, thanks.

I get a series of quiet beeps from down around the same zone while the car is plugged in—this morning for instance, not having been driven since yesterday, but not a high-pitched continuous whine.

I'm taking mine in because the reverse camera stopped working consistently, (plus the heated seats and steering wheel started coming on automatically on the same day that started) and I'll see what they say at my dealer. And yesterday the car started doing a kind of throbbing shake at speed. Didn't have these odd issues with the '17—although that one developed a little tick-tock hitchiness in the steering around the 40k mile mark. All of it's electrical system or software issues, pretty clearly.

Welcome to the forum. Seats and steering wheel heat are supposed to be automatic if it's cold outside. My 2017 only has the heated seat automation when it's cold. Your 2020 has the extra steering wheel heat. This option can be turned off in the settings.

Thank you so much for your detail Answer!
I have a second appointment at the car dealer ship tomorrow. Last week thy did a software up date but that didn't fix the problem. Luckily we are still under warranty.

The way they figured out the problem on mine was to call the Chevy corporate service advisor and let them listen to the car. Might think about suggesting this to your service advisor. Since the car still worked, it was hard to get anyone interested in fixing it. They gave me the same routine that if it doesn't show on on-start don't worry about it! Well, I wasn't worried about it, I just wanted it to stop beeping!!! No one, even a US auto engineer, would make a car that beeped when you shut it off, especially since it seemed like I had the only one that did it. Best of luck and don't take no for an answer.
