Clock won’t update after battery replacement?

1409 Views 14 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  ORBolter
Just picked the car up from the dealer after completing the battery swap per the recall and the clock won’t update to proper time with Auto On-Cell Network selected.

Hoping someone has a simple fix as no luck from GM Concierge so far.

The clock is slow to update for some mysterious reason. At the daylight savings time switchover my clock sometimes doesn't update for a day or two. Patience, grasshopper.

Drive it for a while in ATT cell range. On* uses ATT 4G signals for setting the clock.

EDIT: Here is how you can tell if you are getting an ATT signal:

The OnStar module has to receive the update from the cell network to change the time. If not happening, just manual change the hour. No biggie. There are other things to worry in life, IMO.
Thanks - no ATT signal icon is displayed (we are in Phoenix).

The car is a 2020 Premier

OnStar can reset your ATT connection.
Thanks, I called OnStar and was told they don’t have the capability to reset the ATT Connection from their end. Was forwarded to someone at GM and that rep said she was not able to help and suggested I call ATT or to take it back to the dealership
Anyone know if you need an active OnStar account to have ATT connectivity? Took the car in and this is what I am being told by the dealership.
It sometimes just takes time. Our 2020 Premier has never updated the time at DST changes, it's usually a few days later.
Thanks shrox, does yours display the ATT Signal icon? Ours does not
Problem solved (kind of)…

Called OnStar back and was fortunate to get an advisor that was willing to reset the system (which restored the ATT Signal, fixed the clock, etc). During the call the OnStar system light started flashing red so back to the dealer next week to fix whatever is causing the system to hiccup as it goes back and forth between red and green.

No issues with this before the Battery swap, maybe just coincidental.

Thanks for the help 👍

I meant to check last time I was in the car, but I forgot. I see you've already slain that time dragon.

I don't think an update to the OnStar module is necessary as I was able to get LTE connectivity back to my Bolt by activating an 3-month OnStar trial. LTE returned literally while I was on the phone with OnStar asking questions but before I gave them my credit card info.

After reading above posts, I purposefully set the time and date wrong (hours, minutes, month, day, and year) on my Bolt and let it sit like that for over 2 weeks. I then, with my Bolt on parked, pressed the OnStar button (which didn't have the normal green LED lit above it) to start a call to OnStar. I eventually got to a sales agent and gave them my credit card info to activate a 3-month trial with no contract, cancellation penalty, cancel anytime provisions.

Literally as I was talking with the agent the LTE indicator returned and after the call ended, I check the date and time and they were all correct. The agent claimed they couldn't update my OnStar for the 3G cutoff without an active account but I found that odd since LTE literally returned as I was on the call with them. I double an update was download in mere seconds and flashed so quickly without interrupting my OnStar call through the same cellular modem. Unless there's two separate modems (one for voice and one for LTE), I'm calling BS and I think GM and/or OnStar is just cutting costs and disabling cellular lines for customers who don't subscribe to OnStar. Or maybe I'm paranoid.

Thanks, in our case the OnStar module was toast and replaced under warranty. Was fine before the battery swap - maybe coincidental.
