2022 Bolt EUV died tonight on the side of the highway (in the pissing rain of course) after giving the "pull over" message. Turned off the car, turned it back on and it would not allow it to shift out of park. Tried disconnecting the 12v battery and reconnecting it, no change. Attached a booster pack to the 12v battery and was able to get some functions out of the car that we couldn't previously (like being able to turn the hazards off) Got it towed to the dealer, as we were leaving it randomly started jerking its windshield wipers back and fourth even tho the car was off as well as the wiper control. Was almost like it was possessed or something lol. This was a friends car (my 2022 Bolt EUV has been behaving so far) a local group of us (coworkers / family members) have 6 2022 Bolts between us all. This is the first significant problem anyone of us has seen. The Bolt in question has just over 13,000 KM on the clock. Was able to pull the following codes off of the car before we left it at the dealer.

Im asuming at this point that its something to do with the 12v battery failing in some way? Or potentially something in the harness that has failed open or closed? Any ideas? Will make sure to report back with what the dealer says over the next few days.

Looks almost exactly what my 2017 (original owner) did this past summer. The brand new (2 months prior) 12v battery had been drained by some unknown reason. I had got in the car to reposition it only about 20 feet in the driveway. Several hours later got in and it started doing all kinds of crazy things, the wipers, the horn, the lights and would not boot/start up. All kinds of messages on the screen. I just jump started it with a ICE vehicle. Drove it to run errands for about 30-40 minutes. All ok... thats been several months ago. No issues since. Best guess is a high voltage circuit, powered by the 12v battery, did not close properly when I moved it to get it out of the way for another car in the driveway.

Interesting, yes im very curious as to what the **** happened. Sounds like it might be the same issue you had although in our situation the car had been giving a message to be serviced for the past few days and operated normally outside of that message on the dash. My friend drove it as little as possible (a few kilometers around town) while he waited the few days for his appointment with the dealership. Then last night, drove it from our town to the town that the dealership is located in and approximately 20km or so into that commute the vehicle did what I described above lol. Man it sure did spit out a bunch of codes tho hey? 😂

Yeah, that is a lot of codes. So many, from so many different control modules, that IMO it must be something common between them. The usual suspect is the 12v battery, but that battery could be a symptom rather than the cause (IE the main chassis ground could be loose causing the 12v to not charge properly and causing the control modules to repeatedly loose power).

Does that bolt by chance have the illuminated charge port ?

On my 2022 EUV, I found my main chassis ground to be suspiciously loose and with what looked like prior bolt marks on it. I did not inspect it before the dealer installed the illuminated charging port (dealer option that was backordered when car was deliver, so had to go back a few weeks later). My bolt also sat for ~10mo at GM before getting a new battery though, so could have something to do with that as well.

Ok! so we have found the problem! Incase anyone reading this was wondering what could possibly make their bran new bolt act in this way and set THAT MANY codes, all it takes is your friendly neibourhood mice to have a feast on the underside of your wiring harness! lol. So yeaaaa absolutely nothing wrong with the car just the local critters having a tasty snack. So now my question is this, has anyone else had this happen to a Bolt or other car they owned and if so what the heck did you do to stop rodents from chewing the wires again? I hear that mint oil can help?

Sorry to say I'm glad it was mice and not the car. You need one of these:

Someone was talking about fox piss.. but I am not sure where you can find it.
Oh, 👉 here !
Or was it coyote urine ?
Anyway, you have both on the same link, just look after "Rats" in the left side of the page.

Or follow a very cooperative fox around for a while...with a wide-mouthed bucket.

To answer the previous question...yes...it's a relatively common problem. Modern vehicles often use a more environmentally friendly wire insulation, that is soy-based.

Critters find it to be delicious.

I have foxes and coyotes that regularly go by my barn at night. I will leave a note for them to pee in a cup and I will send it to you. I think the USPS accepts pee.

Caught a mouse one night in metal live trap. Heard it scratching and set the trap outside front door to be released in the morning. When I did, out popped a little 6 in weasel. I use peppermint oil in vehicles and seems to work.

What Greg said. Modern cars use rodent food for wire insulation. Mice LOVE that soy based insulation. The best way to keep them out of the car is to keep the car inside and the critters outside or dead. Lots of people use mint oil, mothballs, electronic deterrents, etc. with varying degrees of success. One thing might work for one person and not for another.

Hopefully, your damage is easy to fix. It's not uncommon for cars to be totaled because the damage is so extensive and the cost of replacing the harness is more than a new car.

There must be at least a hundred threads on Priuschat about mice in the cabin and/or the wiring. We used to get lots of mice in the fall when it cooled down, especially after the (catch this!) soybean harvest. Snap traps worked the best for us. I once disposed of 15 mice in two days.

Had this happen to my F150, $5000 of damage, fortunately insured, there are spray on anti-rodent sprays to use on your wiring, amazon sells them. They help, if you leave your car unused for extended periods, putting lights under neath the body can help to discourage activity at night. Flashing Christmas lights are particularly good.
