You don't need a USB connection to use Android Auto in the Bolt, as long as your Android phone has 5GHz Wifi and is connected to the hotspot in your car.
I don’t think my phone has 5GHz. I have a dual band router at home. Phone sees 2.4 GHz but not 5GHz.

No wireless charging, dying battery, no 5GHz. Still reluctant to give up my old friend. At least it’s not a flip phone.

I need more details:

Maybe your 2023 Bolt EUV has wireless AA already built in?

My iPhone has 5G WiFi, but does OnStar provide 5G or 2.4MHz; I can't tell.

What steps do you take to get your Android to connect?
The hotspot in the car is dual band, both 2.4 and 5GHz. You don't need the 4G data/cellular connection for the car itself to use Android Auto.

For my car it was as simple as enabling Android Auto in the Apps section of the car's info panel. Then, it just worked. Not sure what else I can offer shrug

There's a nearby Toyota dealership that brought in two 2023 RAV4 Prime models, and they are asking $26,000 OVER MSRP. And the real kicker? Legally they are used cars, as Toyota doesn't sell their Prime models in WA. One has a few hundred miles (probably driving it from another state) and the other has just under 3000 miles. So, $67,000 for a used car that lists for $41,000. And they're not even equipped with the premium package, so no 7.6kW charger, heads up display, and a few other items.

Any reasonably new phone will be dual band. Unless you've modified your home router, it uses the same SSID for both radio bands. The only way to tell what band you're connected to is to see the channel number you're using (assuming the phone will show that info, my iPhone 11 doesn't). That's why I use different SSIDs on my radios, so I know which radio I'm using.

How is it "illegal" for Toyota to sell new Primes in WA?

I wouldn't go to Toyota for a pure EV, as that is not really their thing.

I don't think they even offered one until recently. As I recall the previous RAV4-EVs were based upon the RAV4 1.0 frame and manufactured as EVs for Toyota as CARB-cars by Tesla as part of the deal where Toyota sold Tesla its Fremont CA manufacturing plant (formerly GM).

It's not illegal. Toyota will not allow a dealer to sell the Prime vehicles in WA. I said that legally these were used cars, because they have been issued a title from the original selling dealer. To be considered a new car, they cannot have been previously titled by any state.

Yes, around 15 years ago there was a RAV4 EV with Tesla batteries. They were California only cars, and very few are still around. Toyota does now offer an true EV (shared platform with Subaru), but Toyota is again only selling them half-heartedly. And not selling in WA either.

The RAV4 Prime is not a pure EV; it's a plug in hybrid like it's namesake, the Prius Prime.

But you're right about EVs not really being their thing. At least not yet. The BZ4X has a few drawbacks that are showstoppers for me, which is why I got the Bolt EUV.
