So I have a '17 Premier Bolt with all the safety packages, including the feature that will auto-brake the Bolt if it detects it is about to hit a pedestrian. While I have seen the pedestrian alert symbol come on numerous times in the DIC (if I am driving by near a pedestrian), I have never actually had the system activate, which is probably a good thing.
That being said, does anyone know how it works? Is the Bolt simply programmed to recognize shapes and objects that have a similar outline to a person walking in the street? So it's purely a visual detection system? Or are there other factors that it takes into account. For example, if I were to attempt to drive straight into a cardboard cutout of someone, would the Bolt still brake for that cutout?
I guess there is only 1 way to find out for sure...
