This may have come up before but does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade Infotainment to a level that has the .mp4 playback option.
I never had this on my Bolt.

What version supported this and what issues are we aware of that have been fixed since that release?

AFAIK, you can't downgrade. Most firmware systems that allow end-user upgrades only allow that: upgrades.

It's rare that a firmware system incorporates a downgrade pathway from within the firmware. It can be done, but not typically.

I've read that you can jailbreak an Iphone and add whichever apps you like to carplay... so that will allow you to play MP4 files. I don't own an android so I don't know where that stands. I've also read that IOS 12 due out in a month or so will allow waze and google maps, so maybe it'll allow videos too?

Wonder how worried Apple and Google are about idiot drivers. They're only preventing videos to avoid possible lost of life from idiot drivers wanting to stream a TV show "in the background" while driving.

You can lock-out the video feature once the car starts moving, but I'm betting someone will find a way to defeat the safe guards. I mean, you can only do so much to detect the car is in gear or in motion (GPS or accelerometer) before someone defeats those safeties and kills themselves cause they were watching pr0n on their Bolt.

Then again, I'm sure these idiots already do this with phone/tablet holders on their dash, so I'm really bummed we can't watch Youtube or media files on our infotainment system. So really, Apple and Google should just remove the video limitation from their in-car-infotainment ecosystems.
