That's good news! The indications from January sales in just California and Oregon are that the annual sales might get close to that 30,000 number once the rest of the country comes on line.

According to the article:

"It had an annual production capacity of 650 MWh, which would allow for only a few thousand Bolt EV or a few ten of thousands Volt battery packs."
It sounds like they started production at a fairly low rate, likely to work out any kinks in the process. So it seems probable that this kind of capacity increase has been long planned.

Also to see what the market was actually going to do. Was the Bolt going to be popular or not? Looks like they think it is popular enough. Smart on their part. Likely has a lot to do with the slower roll out across the states. They need time to get the battery factory up to speed for the whole country plus.

Chevy was probably hesitant to produce the Bolt in large quantities with how poorly the gen I Volt did back when it first came out. Their approach this time was to slowly roll out and wait fro more data, which is fine so long as everyone who wants a Bolt gets one.

Isn't the LG factory churning out batteries for both the Bolt and Opel Ampera-E? With such a large market to cover, it's no wonder the plant is increasing their production speed.

I'm willing to bet that really helped to ease strain on LG since pressuring production too much can result in subpar product and in a vehicle we all know what snowball effect that can have!

Anyone know if its just LG working on everything from scratch or are they getting some vital parts from a number of sources?
