Today I am having a 48amp Wallbox installed in my garage. I've been using the 110 charging for about four weeks as well as public chargers. I am finally going to be charging at a respectable rate, even if it's less than 48amps. I drive 53 miles one way to work so having a good charger is essential.

I had 48A Wallbox installed in July.

Yes. I have had some red halo issues (errors).

Regarding "smart" EVSE: the tricky thing is that the EVSE can do a schedule and the Bolt can do a schedule. I first did the belt and suspenders thing -- set a schedule on the Bolt and one on the EVSE.

My off peak (Qmerit installation with utility separate EV meter) is .05kWh for off peak (10pm-8am) and something like .22 on. So I would do a schedule in the Bolt of 10pm to 8pm and the Wallbox 10:15pm to 7:45am.

You don't want to spend .22 for 15 minutes!!! (rolling my eyes at myself)
Totally ridiculous.
Not needed.

Now I just do all the scheduling with the car. The Bolt doesn't need a smart EVSE. But, I do like getting info from the Wallbox on the charging reports. How much was put into the battery, how much it costs etc.

The good thing about letting the Bolt do the control is that if I need to charge off-peak in an emergency I can without need to access an app. (just re-plug the cable within a few seconds or so)

From my understanding, if you don't have a smart EVSE, you don't get that info.
