Today, I was poking around under the front passenger seat. With the seat pushed all the way forward, I noticed a flap cut into the carpeting, with a velcro closure tab. I lifted the flap up, and the felt sound deadening mat underneath also had a flap cut in it. Lifting that flap exposed a book sized electronic module with several wiring harnesses plugged into it. I then checked, and found the same thing on the drivers side. Anybody know what they are for?

If I had to guess, control electronics for the various seat-related electronics like airbags, seat heaters, and occupancy sensors.

I saw those too when I was adding padding to the seat. VERY POOR JOB of covering those spots up if you ask me.
I agree, some kind of connection for seat compontent.
In the i-MiEV there was a disconnect for the battery system
