EVgo card not working at Chargepoint stations

I got $500 credit on EVgo for buying a 2023 Bolt EUV & I have used up $125 over about 6 months mostly on 2 Chargepoint stations in my hometown. Recently I get the "card not recognized" message, however. I called EVgo help and they said call Chargepoint. Chargepoint basically said it was an EVgo issue. Another time they said EVgo was updating their partnering system. I called EVgo a couple more times and finally got an email that says: "Please be informed that we are having ongoing issues with our RFID card using ChargePoints. We are currently working and investigating the issue. For now, please try using it on another EVgo station instead." I did try the card on another station (there are only 2 open to the public here) and it did not work. I see on Reddit that one year ago an two years ago there were many complaints about the EVgo card not working... I'm pretty frustrated!

Just a shot in the dark. My credit card starting having issues getting establishments' RFID readers to work. Then the chip readers started to fail. I couldn't see anything wrong with the card, but out of desperation, I rubbed and cleaned the chip and it started working again.

Try the EVgo app instead. I've had some issues with the roaming myself but using the app (FLO in my case) to start a ChargePoint charger works just fine and uses my FLO credit rather than charging me.

I'm also occasionally experiencing the RFID card failure at ChargePoints.

As others have written, I've now gotten to the point that, after a couple of tries with the card, using the EVGo app as an alternative seems to be resolving the issue. It's kind of PIA to have to go that route, but it works (so far).

My EVgo RFID card worked flawlessly ChargePoint chargers about a dozen times but, then started displaying the dreaded "card reader error" message. I asked EVGo to send me a new RFID card and the same thing occurred. The new card worked about 8 times and then stopped working. I think the problem is in the ChargePoint network. It deactivates your card when it detects a problem. It's some kind of security feature. You can get another RFID card but, the problem will keep reoccurring. It will eventually deactivate the new card as well. EVgo says both cards are activated and both should work, but the ChargePoint network has deactivated both of them due to some kind of security issue. The only way to use ChargePoint chargers with EVgo credit is to use the EVgo or My Chevrolet app.

This is an update to EVgo not working @ Chargepoint stations (by Peter AS): I spent more time on the phone with EVgo and later got an email that said in part: "Please be informed that we are having ongoing issues with our RFID card using ChargePoints. We are currently working and investigating the issue. For now, please try using it on another EVgo station instead. " I have also succeeded in starting a charge at the problem station by using the App. Tip: choose the correct charger at the station and use the app Filter thing to choose 3rd party charging--I think it even indicates selecting Chargepoint. Using the card is much easier, however, & I hope EVgo resolves its issues!!!

Thanks for the follow-up and explanation from EVgo. It's good they're aware of the problem and are trying to resolve it. While it depends on the preference of the user, I found the card easier to use, not only the credit card size EVgo card, but I prefer the ChargePoint keychain card, as well.

But with the described issues above, well, it would certainly seem that eschewing use of the EVgo card in favor of the EVgo app would be something of a time-saver, at least for the near future.

I've gotten to the point of giving the card one try, then just switching over to the app. FWIW, in earlier attempts, repeated tries with the card would sometimes work. But it was a hassle doing that, so the card now gets one try, and that's it.

An issue with the EVgo card is simply the size. I have plenty of cards in my wallet without needing another. Frankly, I don't understand why they don't have a keychain-sized card like ChargePoint. With ChargePoint, the keychain RFID card is a lot more handy. Of course, mine is getting pretty scruffy after all these years, but it still works.
