Hi Forum Members,

I just purchased my first EV and am enjoying a LT Trim Silver Bolt. Looking forward to a lot of time saved away from gas stations now that I have an alternate form of transportation. I am also hoping at some point to leverage the solar panels which I have installed at my home, but I need to get an L2 charger installed.

Thanks for reading my introduction!

Welcome to the forum. You'll come to love your Bolt more every time you use it. We don't know how technically inclined you are, but since you have solar panels, maybe some of the following will be of use to you:

Work with the supplied 110-volt charger for the first few weeks and watch your use/range equation. We could have gotten by with the 110.

Also search the forum. It's possible to modify the plug on the OEM charger and supply it with 220-volts to increase the charge rate.

Finally, if you need a home EVSE, it's not rocket science to install one yourself. Much good info here on the forum.

Get a level 2 charger. Get a real Electrician to wire the outlet, unless you are a Real Electrician. Installing the car charger is easy.

Between your solar panels and EV, there is a good chance you can get a deal through your utility company on your rates: most are pretty customer friendly on this, as it saves them money and helps meet their peak demand requirements. With Pacific Gas & Electric's EV-A plan, I can expect a seven year payback on my 22 panels: after seven years, all my electricity will be free until the panels need replacement some time after 2040. Regardless of my solar panels, I charge my Bolt between 11 PM and 7 AM for the equivalent of a dollar a gallon of gasoline.
