I parked them as close as possible, mirror to mirror, and the two cars are almost identical in proportions. Perhaps an inch in any direction. It would be hard to deny that GM took a good look at the Fit EV before they designed the Bolt EV.

It worked on my wife. She had driven Hondas since 1988 and drove a Fit for 10 years prior to getting the Bolt. Her main reason for getting the Bolt was that it was an electric version of the Fit that had enough range to meet her needs. Exterior dimensions aside, her Fit had more interior storage space.

Would you buy the Chevy Bolt EV over the Honda Fit because it is a U.S. brand instead? Even if the Bolt EV were smaller and more expensive, buying the Bolt EV supports the U.S. economy. The Japanese don't need more of our dollars.

Ask any Japanese and they will not buy any imports because they do defend their own national brands.

... The same Japanese who build more vehicle materials, cars and trucks in Texas than 'Real Texan American Trucks' brands build in Texas?

I love my Bolt, but the moment a 'Non American Mostly American' vehicle like it is available, I will freely consider buying it.

To support what is more a National Brand, of course.

1) We live in a global economy.

2) I'm not convinced that making Real American Executives money is the metric I should go by for any purchase, whatever the political motivation.

3) If I lived my life based on 'Well those other guys do it,' I'd be making myself somewhat sociopathic, with Game Theory philosophers and Ayn Rand guiding my actions.

I guess we can both hope that Jeep will make an EV. Then everyone will be happy and appeased.

With 70-74% of their vehicle content made in America, I'd give Jeep a "C-".

My first car was a Chevy Corvair, bought new in '65. I then bought a new Camaro in '71.
Since that time, I've owned mainly Japanese and German cars--most recently a Prius (two of them) for eleven years.
So now I'm back to Chevy with the Bolt, and am impressed that GM has built such a great car. I mentioned that to a Chevy mechanic at the dealer today, and he said Chevy developed a large EV knowledge base with the Volt, and that's what you see in the Bolt. GM has discontinued the Volt, so clearly they see the Bolt as the EV car of the future.

I'm from the Capital Region of NY and bought a 2019 LT back in March. I drove a Fit EV for six years prior. The Bolt EV is basically a Fit EV clone, but with 3x the battery. :D
I got a kick out of reading this. I just bought a used 2017 Bolt. I had a Honda Fit. They are VERY similar. I’ve never gotten into a “new” car and been able to assimilate so quickly. The controls, how they work and their locations are VERY similar. Loving it!
