Found a lot full of mixed Bolts & atleast 1 EUV

Look what I found today on Route 1 in Belair Md. It is next to the auto auction. I think it's a resting lot for units that were repurchased and are awaiting new batteries. What do you think, Judging from some of the colors they are defintley not new and it looks like stop sale or property of GM signs on the winsheilds.

Some of these had already received new packs and were being sold. Donohoo Chevrolet sold at least 75 buyback Bolts after receiving new packs.

Perhaps now GM has decided to put them all at the end of the line. So they won't get new packs until all Bolts in owners hands do first. That may be early to mid next year at the latest.

Donohoo has prices for used Bolts Way too high like everywhere, The Only used Bolt that is actually available is a 21 for $39,000. Most of the others that are waiting for Batteries are $25K and up. I can Order a new Bolt LT1 with convenience and assistance for $28K and If I find Dealer willing to sell with no "Market adjustment" get another $2000 instant discount from NY State.

I had a chance at a 2017 for $9999 during lockdown but would have violated rules if I went to states over to get it, disappointed I didn’t push my luck.
The price right now for a new 2022 Bolt EV LT1 with heated seats and rear radar is $28,050. $2,000 less if I can find a dealer willing to give me the NY State instant rebate which most are marking up and keeping as a market adjustment. Ordering a 2023 when they become available would be the same. I expect $3,000 off of all this if there are any early 2022's with 2021 build dates and new batteries still sitting on lots in November. But demand is so high they will all probably go for the current MSRP minus $6k so my daughter might just as well order a new one if she doesn't want to wait a year for a buy back.

Went buy there today and there was definitely a lot of rearranging and closer parking for the entire area.

Man that launch edition EUV in there (and a bunch if other EUVs if you see closely zoomed in). I’m curious on if they swapped into 2023s for the lower price at this point.

Also makes me wonder if these are also lease returns pending a battery pack replacement so they throw them into a storage lot to keep track on.

I love that whoever is storing these does it by color though.
I am wondering how many swap returns and buy backs GM has stashed around the country, and their long term future. After the battery replacement process pretty well wraps up, will we see something like “green re-certified” used Bolts with new batteries and a new shorter-term bumper to bumper warranty being released through the regular dealer network? The demand for EVs is there, especially in some states, and with at least a potential for a federal incentive on used EVs I am sure they could move them.

Nope, still shows open recall. From the aerial photos I suspect that is a regional holding lot. It also looks like they have the facilities to do all the battery swaps on site then put them through the auction.
GM has done this before. Are we really shocked ?

the only other car company with a serious EV lineup ready to go is kia/Hyundai & I don’t trust their reliability/service dept. I have a used VOLT and new BOLT but GM is a far cry from Tesla. Tesla still makes up 80% of this market & offers solar panels/battery installation for your home. GM is a distant 3rd or 4th place with only 1 car in its current lineup. GM should have dropped the voltec powertrain into 2-3 vehicles they already make [equinox, blazer,malibu] & they would have a respectable EV lineup.

we were that close to getting a NIRO EV but we committed to keeping good jobs in the US. We are happy with the BOLT EUV but the ioniq 5/6 are far superior. The NIRO will have plenty of basic parts 7-10 years from now b/c the car also exists as a hybrid [bumpers, rear views, spare wheels].

In the US in January, GM was a distant 2nd place, not 3rd or 4th. Looking at 2022 numbers is a bit misleading since the recall meant Bolt production didn't start until April.

Lyriq production is now running at around 2000/month. A joke compared to Tesla of course, but the Ultium EVs are not as far away as you think.
By the end of this year, the Silverado EV, Blazer EV, and Equinox EV will have joined the Lyriq and the Hummer EV in production. In addition, the Zevo 600 van is already in production. Numbers will ramp in the 2nd half of the year, as by then the 2nd Ultium battery gigafactory will be up and running in the US.

Hyundai/Kia is in trouble for the moment in the US since none of their EVs qualify for the $7500 tax credit. All their EVs are made overseas.

I only use yearly stats. Even without the tax credit, Hyundai/KIA can longer be ignored especially when u look at the fact that most EV batteries come from China/Korea. Regardless, they are all way behind TESLA. Whoever can close this gap will dominate the new car sales come 2040.

Yearly stats are helpful, but 2022 was an anomaly for GM due to the recall. So, in that case, I like to look at the trends starting with April of 2022, when Bolt production resumed.

I'm looking primarily at 2023 and beyond now. The year 2022 is in the past. We know GM is late to the party, but short of a time machine that can't be fixed. So, no point in belaboring it.

In North America we all know that obviously everyone is way way way behind Tesla. In aggregate however, it won't be long before Tesla is under 50% of EVs sold here. In January, they were at 57%. They will still be increasing in sales, but a smaller slice of a larger pie.

Some components for GM EV batteries are from other countries, however GM is working on creating domestic sources. The batteries are made here though; Michigan for the Bolts, and Ohio for the Ultium EVs. By midyear, the plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee will be producing Ultium batteries too. In 2024, a third Ultium gigafactory will start producing batteries in the US. That will be in Lansing, Michigan.

In China, BYD is now ahead of Tesla if you also count PHEVs. It probably won't be long before they surpass Tesla in BEVs, and globally.

I'm not betting on anyone, but am rooting for all North American EV manufacturers, including Tesla. My preference is for jobs and income for US, Canada, and Mexico, over countries halfway around the world, especially China.

Until Kia and Hyundai start producing EVs in North America, I'm not interested. And, without the tax credit, they have nothing to match the value of a Bolt anyway.
