I did not get the holder with the car. When I called the customer service number they told me to pound sand - I would have to pay a dealer to get and install the holder.

Does your state require a front plate? If it does, the dealer has to provide the bracket free of charge and you should have had the day you drove away. If your state does not require a front plate, but you want one anyhow, go to the parts department at the Chevy dealer and order one. You can install it yourself. It's easy. Easy enough that even car dealers can do it!

Really hate front license plates. What's their purpose? I doubt they really help authorities in identifying a vehicle. How often does a car chase happen with the suspect reversing?

A post on another site said his Bolt's front license plate attachment holes didn't match the holes in his license plate. He got several replies, none mentioned just punch new holes in the license plate.

I'm posting this here in case that solution isn't obvious.

Still getting no help

My state, Colorado, does require a front plate. But since there were no Bolt EV Premiers available anywhere in Colorado, I had to buy one from a dealer in Oklahoma and have it shipped here. Oklahoma does not require a front plate, so they did not give me one. When I cited Colorado law to the Chevy support center, they said that since Oklahoma didn't require one, they were under no obligation to supply or install one.

Many (most?) modern toll roads photograph the license plates instead of using transponders. LEO can also identify vehicles as they move *towards* them, in traffic. Automated systems that LEOs use to scan for license plates and cross-check for unresolved offenses can use them, too.

Colorado toll system still found me with my out of state car with only a rear plate. LEO? pretty sure you don't mean low earth orbit.

My first suggestion is to start a thread here asking if anyone wold like to give theirs away to you. Lots of people buy cars in states that require the front plate, or the front plate his optional but then decide not to put it on for aesthetics reasons. Most likely you could find someone here that would hand it off to you.

The second suggestion is just go to your local Chevy dealer's parts department and order the kit. I doubt it would cost very much and like I said, it's easy to install yourself. I think the money spent would be well worth it not to have to try to convince some dealer, or GM to give you one for free. Things like this happen when you buy out of state cars.

A Dodge Challenger GT hit me on a back road going an estimated 80 miles per hour in a 40 mile per hour zone.

He took a tight turn at that speed and crossed not only over the double yellow in my lane, but over into the DITCH on my side. The ditch I bailed into in my Chevy Volt in an attempt to save myself.

Clipped my driver's side mirror off, which then rattled between our cars, smashing my driver's side window, denting the rear passenger arch, scraping along the side, and breaking the rear light on that side.

~ 2000 dollars worth of damage, from a MIRROR turning into a superball, basically.

Then he dug down a couple of gears and fled the scene of the accident.

BUT he had a front license plate, which is the law here in Texas, and I had a 60 FPS car camera. Cops showed up, pulled the SD card, then went off to find him at his place of work.

If I had my way, EACH AND EVERY driver in Texas without a front license plate would get a heavy fine. Each week. Until it was fixed. Obviously I have my reasons for thinking that.

Badass! I don't know if they are legal in Texas but not like police can notice at a glance.

I'm getting one.. 👍
That's an interesting solution. We already had the holes since the dealer had already installed a frame for the mandated front plate.

I ended up picking a plate in colors which go well with our Bolt. It's an extra cost plate that supports wildlife. Also, I got this bump frame to give it a modicum of practical value.

To me, the Bolt is a dorky looking car anyway, especially the front, although the 2022 is an improvement. Not having a front plate isn't going to change that.

Hello, Thought I'd see what others thought. My car came without the front license plate holder installed, the sales person just stuck the holder and hardware in the trunk. Now that our plates have come, I went to the dealer to see if they'd attach the holder for us. They can't tell me until I take the car in for an appointment if they will charge me to attach this or not. My question is, did your Bolt come from the dealer with the front license plate holder attached? Should I expect it to, or for the dealer to cover the cost to attach it? To me it seems silly that I'd have to pay for this. I'd do it myself but don't have a riveter at home. Also, how many out there are deciding to drive without the front plate? In CA we need it by law, but it sure looks ugly on the Bolt, in my opinion. A casual look at traffic in my neighborhood reveals a surprising number of drivers without front plates, so how likely is not having a front plate to be an issue, do you think? Thanks.
Just got a 125 dollar ticket fron the city (SF) for no front plate, it's correctable but a pain; the car was parked at the time. Ive tried the tow hook plate holder, it looked tacky and was an easy vandal target. Guess I'll suck it up and put on the standard plate holder.

I lived in SF years ago and it was bad then, but impossible now. The city and their contractors generate chicken-shite tickets by the bale. The nasty little secret is the impetus for all this comes from the third-party collection agency to whom the city sells your data if/when you don't pay promptly. They'll hound you to the ends of the earth.

FWIW, my wife feels vulnerable to police attention when the required front plate is not installed, so on her cars, I give in. When a parallel-parker-bandit crunched the plastic front fascia, we had it replaced for $400, but I kept the front plate and bracket under the floor in the trunk. So far, so good.

Same but different, she bought a new used Audi. The rear license plate bracket is flimsy plastic crap with four captive steel nuts to receive the license plate screws. The nuts are only good for the initial installation. If the plates come on and off and the screws are tightened at all, the nuts pull out of the plastic. Dealer-Service-Department installed, a new bracket is $250. Across the counter from the Parts Department, it's $160. Even more ridiculous, the front bracket only has two captive nuts; however, they don't align with standard US license plate holes. The dealers run self-tapping screws through the plastic.
