I just built and tested the above adapter to use my EVSE on my 240v dryer outlet. It works great at ~9mi/hr charging. However, no sooner did I complete it than I noticed the garage has an unused 14-50P outlet, which turns out is far more convenient than unplugging the dryer and running the EVSE through the window.
Anyway, I built it very robust using a new replacement 5ft 10/3 dryer cord, 20A rated industrial 5-15 plug, and RTV applied around the plug cavity for some degree of sealing and strain relief. I'll simply be building another to use at the aforementioned garage outlet.
Asking $35, which will almost recoup the cost of materials as purchased from Lowe's.
Pictures to follow when I get home.
