I recently received an interesting survey from a GM market research firm on potential features in new EVs. These features included

  • V2G capabilities with a manufacturer sponsored installation of required switches and equipment
  • Home back-up generator capabilities
  • Home fast charger (70mi/hr of charge)
  • Worksite generator capabilities
  • Jump charge feature -- jump charge another similarly equipped EV
The survey is a modified bivariate analysis that changes a bundle of features and asks your likely price point to pay for the feature. As an example, here is a screenshot:

Are any members receiving this? It seems to signal an exploration by GM into a more integrated future for EVs as general power sources.

Personally, I felt the price point of $3,700 for a home fast charger with full install was tempting (we have two EVs at home). The Jump Charge feature was overrated at >$2000; after all, there are multiple videos of simply towing the BOLT EV with a tow strap to get out of a dead battery situation.
