Wheel Tire Car Land vehicle Vehicle

I'm standing with Daniel Brouillard of Mirak Chevrolet in Arlington, MA. My 2019 LT just got its new battery pack. It took a day and a half for the procedure. He said it took longer to unpack the new battery and pack up the old one than to actually place the new battery in the car. Daniel says when calling your dealer, please leave your name, address, phone number and VIN. Then they can order the new pack for the cars that are eligible. It's been a long haul but I'm glad I waited. It's a great little car.

Yes, from the bulletin at https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2021/RCSB-21V560-3056.pdf, it appears a lot of the work is unpacking the new battery and packing the old one.

Page 7 lets the dealer claim from 4.5 to 5.5 hour of labor.

Were you notified to bring in your car for the battery change or did you request it?
I had gotten a call from the Concierge.

Then with the Concierge on the phone I drove to the dealer who told me they still couldn't order the battery on the parts website. So I passed that on to a contact who is a regional Chevy service manager. He called me back to say there had been a problem with website that he hadn't been aware of. The next day Daniel from the dealer called me very happily to say that he could get a battery. I feel I played my small part in the whole drama.

Can you tell if the new battery has any more capacity? Do you get any paperwork that lists the capacity of the new battery? Do you get any paperwork stating the new warranty period for the battery?

My dealer, who I'll be getting my battery done most likely next week, had said to me that even with everybody standing around and going through the process for their first swap...3.5 hours. They can take as long as they like unpacking and packing but if I could get out of there in ~4 hours I'd be darn happy.

The label on the pack (if you stoop down on the driver's side to look under the car) should indicate a number higher than 60 kWh, like 64 kWh. Also, the pic I've seen of such a label says N2.2 Module.

Now I am on the horns of a dilemma! During the 90 days I was deprived of my Bolt, I asked for and was approved for the buyback program! Went to my dealer who treated me very kindly and showed me a new 2021 Bolt. I agreed that that was the car I wanted. We filled out all the paperwork and then GM put a stop order on all Bolt sales. Sales manager says to me, "don't worry, that is your car." Now, a few weeks later my original MY2019 has had it's battery replaced and returned to me. Sales manager says I may have the 2021 when it gets its battery replaced in a few weeks! Whoa. What's a lad to do? I really LOVE my 2019!

Interesting. Did they check in your vehicle and inspect it prior to ordering the battery? I have been told again and again that I have to bring my car in (which I've done twice now only to be turned away with "We can't do this repair"), check it in for 24 hours, before they will even order the battery, even with my "replace your battery now!" letter. I have been unable to do this over the phone at all, and I've visited 2 dealers just to have them turn me away. I'm trying a third next week (this is dealer #7 I've contacted overall, third to visit in person). I really don't want to be stranded without a car for a month while they order a battery, since when I asked the concierge if they were going to hold the car through the whole process, I got "maybe, I don't know" and the dealer won't give any info over the phone...just demand that I bring the car in before they'll talk to me. I'm running out of dealers!

It's quite messed up messaging. I had been watching this site. I was sorta keeping an eye out on the mychevrolet site. Then someone posted about a battery being done near-ish me. I checked mychevrolet - no change. Then 2 days later (21st) there it was.
I called my local dealer and they said to call gm. gm set it all up but it was for much later in November.
I called the dealer mentioned (which was the dealer I bought the vehicle from) and they said sure, we can order it we can do it for you on the 28th. Then they called back saying no, a battery has been allocated to your VIN to another dealer.
I called gm and got them to re-arrange all that and the new dealer got it all going and hopefully I'll have a new battery sometime this week. A week later than maybe I could have.
Later this past week (28th) I finally got the letter.

So yes...messy messaging.

Your story doesn't sound like the procedure that was explained to me. I'm not going to be helpful here because I had parked my car in my dealer's lot - because it was either there or in the basement parking garage of my daughter's hi-rise apartment building. But when I said I was going to post this, my dealer just emphasized having the VIN with the initial call to save time - He didn't mention anything about a pre-installation inspection period. When it was ordered it took about a week to get it shipped.

There was the complication around the GM website that the dealer used to order the battery. The dealer couldn't order it and the Chevy people didn't know about the glitch. Seems like there are a lot of internal communication issues that have gummed up the works.

Thanks for the extra detail. I agree about the communication. The EV concierge, the GM rep who reached out to me to help me find a dealer, had no idea what the procedure was either. The dealers were telling HIM what the procedure was, which doesn't give me a lot of confidence since none of them seemed to know, either. They are just reading whatever printout they've got about the recall, and I'm getting different responses and none of them match the stories of people here who have had successful battery replacements.

I really don't know why they are having such a hard time with this.

Did they charge it to 100%?
I picked it up before they could finish charging it. It has been reset to 100%, but I haven't gotten there yet. I drove it a bit then plugged in my slow charger - overnight. Since I drove it again today I won't get to 100% until 11:45 tomorrow. Right now its anticipating the max range is 260 miles.
