I wasn't sure where to post this, so sorry if it's in the wrong section.
Has anybody had experience with extensive hail damage? My car was outside my friend's house during a freak hail storm. The hood, roof, and A pillars are loaded with little dents.
I submitted a claim with my insurance, and I will also be getting an independent estimate to compare numbers. Do you think they will total it? KBB trade in value for my car is $27,000. Wisconsin's total loss threshold is 70% of the value.

But it still works mechanically, I think.

That is a significant amount of bondo required , but should not be enough to total it. ?

You will need to replace the hood. Not worth the cost of PDR on it and it may also not be possible. I have not checked but it may be aluminum and that cant have PDR.

Totaling out a hail damaged car happens often. You can search auction sites for hail damaged cars.

If they do total the car ask what the buyback amount is. May be a very good deal to buy it back and fix it yourself or sell it to someone that does not care about the damage.

I feel your pain. Happened to me 2 years ago with my previous 2019. Similar to yours - slightly less.

Go to a good paintless dent removal expert. It's cheap and the results were simply perfect. Impossible to tell where the dents were. The aluminum hood makes it easy for them to work with.

Doesn't look that bad. I'd take the money or simply not claim insurance.
After a few years the dents will pop out in the sun and cold. I had a truck that all but one popped out after a few years.
If you insist then dent less is a common way but may later show paint issues.

I'll be reaching out to a paintless dent repair place tomorrow for an estimate.
Or leave it as is! Cool Custom look with possible benefits! Think Myth Busters. (y)
Take the insurance money and treat yourself to a little vaca!

Some collisions centers and companies are experts in remove the dents with some kind of magnetic or ultrasound, I’m not sure how they work, or if they work in the material of the Chevy, but get all the estimates and costs. A friend buy back from the insurance, repair the car (collision) and get some change in the bank. Only the prices of the parts, batteries, units, motor, etc. are more than $30,000 sold separately..

I never understand these hail storms that occur out of nowhere and cause damage to cars, how are there not like 1,000 bludgeoned bodies around?
Cars can’t take cover while people can. Heck, people can take cover IN cars… and sometimes those cars are MOVING. ;)

I’ve been caught in many hail storms. In fact, we just got a hail storm warning of vehicle damage and my brother just called wondering what he should do with his new Bolt EV. He’s on his way to work and has no where to park it.

That’s almost the exact situation I was in with my new Corolla 10 years ago when the hail started pelting my car just as I pulled in for work. I had to be there when I had to be there and it’s not like I could’ve gone anywhere else if I had warning. shrug

I’m at work so all I can do right now for my brother’s 4-day old Bolt EV is cross my fingers. :(
