I'm Mark, and I just last weekend bought my first electric car, a Bolt Premier w/ "Mosaic Black Metallic" paint :) and all the available packages and features. (It was the dealer show Bolt.) 37,400k, OTD.

I'm going through the process of setting up a level 2 charging station at my home, here in Newton (just outside of Des Moines) , Iowa. As my garage is too far away, and my driveway goes past the garage and up to the house, I'll be setting up the charging station in front of the house, under the second story deck.

I've picked up a Siemens Versacharge gen 2 30 amp charger, 25' of #8 wire, 40a QO breaker, weatherproof sheathing, and I'm going to this weekend to get a large metal cabinet I found on craigslist for 20 bucks that I'll feed the cable into and use as a storage locker for the charger (on a hose wheel). The charger cost me $500, and the electrical materials and locker will cost about $200. I've done quite a bit of residential elec work, and will pull a permit and do the work myself. I got some great ideas and help from GregBrew and Nook and Cataract2 - thanks guys!

Anyway, my hobbies are playing jazz on my Les Paul electric guitar, (and I teach guitar) and keeping up with the latest technology. Wife is a school teacher and commutes to the next town (35 miles away) and she's using the Bolt as her daily commuter (bleah!) :) . But I get it on the weekends. We're limping along on the 120v charging until I can complete the 240v project.

I was thinking of putting my new charging sys (when I finish it) on plugShare in case somebody coming through gets stranded, there aren't many charging stations in this neck of the woods yet :). Actually, just one - and it's a campsite, so someone would need a portable charger to use it.

So, just wanted to say hi, and that I'm really happy to have finally joined the EV community. It was more expensive than I thought it would be, but it'll be worth it.

Welcome to the forum. The more you use the Bolt, the better it gets.

For a 70-mile-a-day, one might limp by with the 120-volt charger, but since you can DIY the install (despite what some here feel, it ain't rocket science) might as well git 'er done sooner rather than later.

On your sub-topic, I still have some old Kenny Burrell, Wes Montgomery, George Benson, et al, vinyl that I bring out on quiet evenings.

Welcome, it's likely too late, but check into your power company. Virtually all have moderate to heavy discounts if you charge the car on offpeak. Discounts are more likely in the midwest. If you have some resistance, tell them it's like a storage water heater or dual fuel heat. My payback for going offpeak was ~75 charges.

Also, you can make a Y cable to feed 240 to your stock charger. I recommend a 14-50P to 120 female adapter, plus a 14-50S to 2 male 120 plugs. This gives you the most flexibility. That lets you travel with your stock charger and get 240V 12A on either a 14-50 plug or 2 120's. There's other threads that discuss those more clearly.

I love all those jazz players - don't have any vinyl though - I wish I did...
