I drive a gmc 3500 duramax crew cab (and have great forward visibility). I want something that I can park anywhere and will never have to pass a smog test or change the oil. Not sure how I'll like looking at the rear bumper of the vehicle in front of me but it's time for me to change. I'll just sit back and learn something here so I can make an informed decision and hopefully my nearest dealer will get some more EV's into inventory. They only have 1 Premier on the lot and it's the wrong color & package.

All Bolts have the same geometry, suspension and powertrain; you could take that Premier Wrong Color for a test drive just to see what it feels like to drive one.

Also, if they have only one, this may mean they aren't really interested in selling Bolts (= probably less inclined to negotiate the price, and may be not 100% equipped to service one). I'd look within 40-50 miles radius to see who has a few Bolts.

Not a GMC 3500 Duramax Crew Cab but I until 5 months ago I drove a GMC Yukon Denali for 8 years. Loved the Denali but at 14.5 mpg I was done. The Bolt is easy to park, great on the cost of electricity vs what I was spending in gas, and with the heavy battery pack down below gives it really good stability, thus fun to drive in turns and twists. As Dimitrij said above, test drive one at a dealer. They might want to see about a dealer trade with the one they have for a color you want. Good luck.

To continue this good advice, scan it around to several dealers. Personally, I had to visit four to find a sweet spot of:

  • An engaged salesperson who is intrigued by EVs. This is important because they will advocate with the sales director for you. They will love to share ideas and your research on the Bolt.
  • A dealership willing to put up with multiple test drives, or that even had the vehicle in my desired configuration.
  • Some history with EV sales and service. If there are Volts in the shop, great. If they have a public charger, better. If they have a CCS charger--wow! Ask how many techs are certified on the Bolt... It's not that the Bolt is a service hog, you just want to have a convenient place for routine warranty service.
Good luck

You may be pleasantly surprised by the seat height of the Bolt. It isn't a sedan, its considered a subcompact CUV. The seating height is at least 6 inches higher than a typical sedan, and this makes a huge difference for driver visibility. I drove Honda sedans for years, and I find the visibility in my Bolt is a huge improvement.

Take a test drive, and try out 'L' mode. You may be able to order the Bolt you want (model/ trim/ color) through a dealer: it's worth looking into, if you are willing to wait.

It appears both of our parents selected a non-traditional spelling for Jon.

As others have said, take a test drive and check out the height adjustment on the seat. Where I live it is sometimes difficult to find a Bolt to test drive. A few weeks ago, one of our dealers showed 3 Bolts in inventory on Friday. I made an appointment with a sales rep for Monday. Early Monday he called me to inform me all three had been sold and delivered on the weekend. I finally found another one, at a different dealer, that was sold to one of our local governmental agencies but not yet delivered that I could use for a test drive. It did not have the options I wanted, but the key was the driving characteristics were the same. So now I am waiting for my 2019 Bolt to arrive.
